In the Beiras, discover ten ancestral medieval villages located between the Serra da Estrela Natural Park region and the Spanish border. Most of these villages were built between the 12th and 14th centuries and have undergone extensive restoration and preservation work in recent years. Don't miss Almaida, Castelo Mendo, Castelo Novo, Castelo Rodrigo and Belmonte.
Continue your visit to the medieval villages: Idanha-a-Velha, Linhares, Marialva, Monsanto, Piodao and Sortelha.
Head for the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. It has the highest peaks in the country, and is also ideal for hiking
Discover the city of Coimbra, renowned since the Middle Ages for its superb university and Roman remains (in the centre and in Conimbriga)
Then go north and enjoy the Luso thermal spa before visiting the wonderful palace of Bussaco and its forest.
