Oman : When to go ?

High tourist season. From November to April in the majority of the country, a soft time for visits and outdoor activities. From June to mid September in the region of Dhofar, which benefits from monsoon rain making the atmosphere pleasant (elsewhere, it is the furnace!). Attention: nights can be fresh or cold, in the desert and mountains in the heart of winter (January-February).

There is no tail in museums, beaches are poorly frequented, coast has very beautiful lonely coves, hiking trails as well as the most visited areas never suffer from intense crowds...A preserved natureSince Sultan Qaboos's assumption of power in 1970, the government has incorporated environmental issues into its policy. Several animal species (oryx white, Arabian leopard...) are protected, hunting is prohibited by royal decree, several zones have been declared and classified in natural reserves etc. These initiatives have promoted the preservation of the Omani biodiversity and make the Sultanate of Oman a fully-fledged eco-educational destination. The seabed is rich, the coasts recèlent several breeding sites of marine turtles, territorial waters serve as habitat to a large population of dolphins, whales cross the offshore...A country for all touristBy boat, on foot, in 4 x 4, the slug back... the Sultanate of Oman lets itself discover every rhythm and every style: differs of a tent planted in the middle of nowhere, conviviality of a guesthouse or luxury of a high-class palace. There are virtually no youth hostels and very few guesthouses. However, one can plant its tent absolutely everywhere in the country, not insignificant if one is familiar with this type of outdoor life rather rustic (rarely sites strictly speaking, and therefore no toilets or water!)Food prices vary from one to ten depending on the location, but it is perfectly possible to eat for little.On the other hand, there is nothing practical about transport. Although collective bus services exist, they do not serve the mountainous and remote areas of the Sultanate, which remain the most interesting in the country. As a result, it is often necessary to rent a 4 x 4 vehicle at a significant price (40 OMR per day).FormalitésVisas are required to travel to Oman. Nationals of European countries, including France, and a number of other countries can obtain their visa tourism visa on arrival. Since February 20, 2012, the Sultanate of Oman applies new tariff conditions for Visa tourism issued at Muscat International Airport or the land border.5 Omani rials (approximately € 10) for any stay not exceeding 10 days and 20 Omani rials (approximately € 40) for any stay between 11 days and one month. Passengers of cruise ships who make a stopover in Oman under 48 hours do not require a visa. If they make several stopovers in Oman, they must purchase a multiple-entry visa (5 Omani rials).The identification to be provided in all cases is a valid passport more than 6 months after the date of departure of the territory.Any exit from the territory cancels this visa and it is therefore advisable to provide a multiple entry visa if you wish to travel to the Musandam Peninsula by road.
