First, drive towards Dashaizi, and its art district 798 which includes what is best in Chinese and Western contemporary art. Stroll through this gigantic complex (a former disused electronic equipment factory of 500,000 m²) where all the most popular galleries have settled since the beginning of the 20th century. Start by admiring the collection and temporary exhibitions of the Ullens Foundation (UCCA) and then stroll through this place sometimes characterised with a certain "subversion".
Second, consider visiting the many galleries in the city centre (including the Paris-Beijing gallery) to have an overview of Chinese more traditional life and Chinese contemporary artistic life.
