Day 2 : Visit to Heraklion



In the morning, discover the city and its Venetian and Turkish architecture. Walk on the ramparts where Nikos Kazantzakis' tomb is located. Departure for Anogia to soak up the atmosphere of this mountain village at the foot of Mount Psiloritis. Avoid drinking too much psycoudia because the next day...




Day 3 : Mount Psiloritis

Ascent of Psiloritis Mount, apex of the island (7 to 8 hours walk back), after visiting the cave Ideon Andron where Zeus was reportedly raised. Then, direction the Lassithi plateau where you can sleep (preferably Agios Giorgos).

Crossing the Lassithi plateau to see the famous windmills and visit the Dikti cave where Zeus was born. Then Direction and then Plaka.




Day 5 : The fortress of Spinalonga

Hiking to Cape Agios Ioannis and boat tour of the Forteresse history Fortress. Then evening in Agios Nikolaos, the Saint-Tropez of Crete!

Visit of the typical village of Kritsa and walk to the Minoan site near Lato. Back on foot (or by bus) in Agios Nikolaos from where you can go to Mochlos, a small port halfway between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. Evening and night in this peaceful village, on the edge of the bay.




Day 7 : Worms Vers

In the morning, excursions in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Swimming, then direction Sitia where you spend the night.




Day 8 : Zakros

Morning departure for Zakros. A Apo Zakros (Zakros from top), leave your car (or get off the bus). You will then join Zakros by the last section of the E 4 hiking trail, the beautiful death valley. Visit of the Minoan site of Zakros. Swimming. Evening and night in Zakros.




Day 9 : Xerokambos

12 km-km morning walk that will take you to Xerokambos, more south or alternatively by car by this same track. After a swim in this beautiful natural setting, direction the south coast by Ziros then Goudouras. Visit of the monastery Moni Kapsa. Camping on the beach.




Day 10 : Koufonissi Island

From Makrigialos, a little further on the coast, take a boat for the island of Koufonissi, its ancient theatre and its beautiful beach. Excursion around the island. Then direction Koutsounari, more west where a campsite is located. Evening in Ierapetra where you can visit the old quarter after a good meal in one of the harbour taverns.




Day 11 : Myrtos



Morning departure for Myrtos. Visit of Apiculture sites of Fournou Korifi and Pirgos. Picnic at one of these sites overlooking the sea. Peaceful swimming and evening in one of Myrtos's seaside taverns.




Day 12 : Sarakinas Gorge

In the morning, hike to Males through the Sarakinas gorges. Departure for Heraklion. Evening in the city. Shopping...




Day 13 : The Cnossos site

In the morning, visit the Knossos site and then dine in the village of Archanès where you can visit a cellar. In the afternoon, visit the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.




Day 14 : Back



Return to France from Heraklion.
