As soon as you arrive in Canton, head away from the urban hustle and bustle to the green island of Shamian. Here, stroll through its history-filled streets and immerse yourself in the colonial past of Canton. Especially in the north of the island, in the Qingping market, where you will find many Chinese herbs and dried meat traders. Continue the day at the temple of the Ancestors of the Chen clan, with roofs adorned with superb glazed terracotta sculptures built in the 19th century. Finish off the day with a night cruise on the Pearl River, with dinner on board.
