This route offers a discovery of the must-visits national parks of the south-west Pacific coast, with a stopover to the Irazú volcano and a quetzals observation walk.

Day 1 : San José

San José, discovery of the city center: The pedestrian streets around the Place de la Culture, around which all the activity of San José gravitates. Stroll through the central market, then discover the Museo de Oro Precolombiano and the Teatro Nacional. Along the same avenue (Avenida 2), walk through the Place de la Démocratie and visit the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica. The continuation of San José's visit will be devoted to two adjacent districts, the barrios Otoya and Amón, which make up the historic centre of the city. The promenade ends with a good glass, or better, a good meal at the Café Mundo.




Day 2 : Irazú Volcano

Ascent to the crater of the volcano Irazú. Visit of Cartago in the afternoon.




Day 3 : Orosí Valley



One day tour in the valley: village of Orosi, Cachi, Ujarrás, coffee plantation. Journey from Orosí to Valle Savegre. Installation in a lodge of San Gerardo de Dota.




Day 4 : Savegre Valley



Observation of quetzals early in the morning.




Day 5 : Puerto Jiménez



Long journey from Valle Savegre to Puerto Jiménez. Arrival in the evening in Puerto Jiménez.




Day 6 : Head to Golfito

Visit of Puerto Jiménez. Crossing of Golfo Dulce, Golfito.




Day 7 : Tour by 4x4



Drive (by 4x4) to Cabo Matapalo, then Carate, where you can walk to Madrigal on the beach with a guide.




Day 8 : Bahia Drake

Drive to Sierpe and transfer by boat in the mangrove, then on the sea to Bahia Drake.




Day 9 : Corcovado park



Bahia Drake. Visit of the Corcovado national park in San Pedrillo.




Day 10 : Diving in the Bahia Drake



Snorkeling in Isla del Caño.




Day 11 : Sierpe

Return to Sierpe and journey to Manuel Antonio via Ojochal. Stop at Marino Ballena Park if you are in a family, and lunch at Ojochal.




Day 12 : Walk in the forest

Visit of the Manuel Antonio national park (must-visit). A day is necessary to discover all the beaches and all the trails.




Day 13 : Biological reserve of Carara



Visit of the reserve. Installation in a logde with Pacific view for 48 hours of pure relaxation.




Day 14 : Around the lodge



Exploring the lodge, discovering the fauna and flora with your hosts.




Day 15 : Again in the capital



Return to San José.
