Trip description

This trip will allow you to discover Colombo, its region and part of the cultural aspect of the island in Kandy, Dambulla and Sigiriya. If it does not allow you to discover the cities and beaches of the east and south, it still remains comprehensive enough to have a good approach to the country.

Day 1 : Negombo and its beach

Arrival at Colombo Airport, located about 1 hour's drive from the capital. Start your day in Negombo, 20 minutes from the airport. The beach is not extraordinary, but there is a wide choice of hotels.

Early visit to the picturesque fish market. Leave for Colombo by train or taxi around 8:30 am, allow 1 hour to 1 hour and a half by car depending on traffic. You can take a day tuk-tuk to visit the capital by determining the price in advance. You can stroll through the incredible maze of Pettah Bazaar's alleys. Take a walk under the Cargills arcades and around the Clock Tower President House and Clock Tower. At noon, you can have lunch in one of the restaurants of the Dutch Hospital, then head for the National Museum, which is well worth a 2-hour visit for its masks and splendid Buddhist sculptures. At the end of the day, take a dip in the swimming pool of the Galle Face Hotel, the most beautiful colonial palace in the city where you can choose to dine facing the sea on a splendid terrace.




Day 3 : Kandy and the Tooth Temple

Leave Colombo for Kandy. By train, count from 2 hours 30 to 3 hours and from 4 hours to 5 hours by bus or by car. Visit of the Tooth Temple. It will take you almost half a day to turn it around.




Day 4 : Meeting elephants



Departure in the morning for the Pinnawela elephant orphanage. On the way back, stop at the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, the most beautiful on the island.




Day 5 : Et and Sigiriya

Departure early in the morning for Cave's Cave Temple and Buddhist sculptures, and then Forteresse fortress. Take 4 to 5 hours to arrive at Sigiriya.




Day 6 : Relax...

Departure from Sigiriya and return to the capital. Take 6 hours of road. You can stay in Mount Lavinia, a pleasant seaside resort with many good restaurants on the beach.




Day 7 : ... and shopping

Shop in Colombo and return to the airport.
