After these visits, we will embark on a short and surprising trail, where we will discover some of the hidden beauties of the rainforest. The Tijuca Forest is one of the largest urban forests in the world and was created in the 19th century by Emperor Pedro II, with the aim of reforesting areas affected by deforestation caused by sugar cane and coffee cultivation. The reforestation was carried out under the direction of Major Manuel Gomes Archer, ensuring the protection of Rio de Janeiro's water supply. In 1961, the Tijuca Forest was officially declared a National Park, becoming the smallest and most visited of Brazil's national parks. In addition to the many tourists who visit the famous Christ the Redeemer, located in the park, there are still many areas left to explore. The tour begins at 8:00 am and lasts about 5 hours, with an easy level of difficulty. We start with hotel pick-up, followed by a stop at the Taunay Waterfall and a visit to the Visitor Center. Next, we follow enchanting trails, where we can swim in the waterfalls before visiting the Mirante da China and the Mesa do Imperador.
