My Own Everest
When we imagine Everest, we think of crampons and ski goggles on our faces, encrusted with ice after weeks of trekking. While this scenario is possible, there are other, much simpler ways to reach the highest summit in the world.
The Everest region is a paradise for trekkers and without a doubt the most beautiful trek in the world. From short and easy hikes to the ascent of snowy peaks, there are many options. Beginner, moderate, or advanced, everyone will find the right fit.
For those short on time, a mountain flight from Kathmandu is by far the simplest and fastest way to see Everest. For those with a few days, there is no need to go all the way to base camp to get close to Everest. The “postcard” view from Syangboche is only two days’ walk from Lukla, on the forest trail leading to Namche, perched at over 3,400 meters altitude. Protected areas, the national parks and the region have infrastructures that allow hikers to find accommodation, food, and meet local communities. The trekking paths are usually well maintained and often marked.
For the bravest, in 12 to 16 days, you can do the legendary Everest base camp trek: flight to Lukla, ascent to Phakding then Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pheriche, Lobuche, then Gorakshep, the last stage before conquering the mythical Everest base camp.
Seeing and getting close to Everest is the goal of this trip. The landscape goes far beyond your expectations; breathtaking! The glacial environment with its moraine lakes, the altitude, the number and immensity of legendary peaks, the Sherpa people living in harmony, the region as the cradle of the Sherpa population and Buddhist culture, the monastery and the typical villages of the Himalayas will amaze you. Everything to make this itinerary one of the most famous treks in the world.
