Oman: Let yourself be tempted by the Arabian Peninsula

Land of legend embodied by Sinbad the Sailor, the Queen of Sheba, and the Thousand and One Nights. Hidden between the sea of sand and the Indian Ocean, Oman has managed to preserve its identity, its values, and its way of life. In the desert, the Bedouins still keep the caravan tradition alive. This mountainous land surrounded by sand and water will amaze you during this tour.

DAY 1: MUSCAT

Arrival at Muscat airport. Welcome by a representative. Transfer to your hotel.

DAY 2: MUSCAT (70 km)

Drive through the embassy district with your guide to reach the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, both traditional and modern. It reflects the aspirations and ambitions of the Omani people. This building beautifully maintains the balance between aesthetics, culture, and the roots of a deep Islam.

Continue to the Opera House, a major architectural project of the Sultan.

Discover old Muscat, dominated by mountains and flanked on the sea side by the two forts Jalali and Mirani dating from the 16th century. Here is Al Alam Palace, the Sultan's residence.

Visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum, an Omani house built in 1914 by Sheikh Al Zubair, once in the service of the sultans, and transformed into a museum in 1998. Behind its massive carved doors, you will find collections of weapons, jewelry, costumes, everyday objects, and reconstructions of the urban and rural environment of the past.

Continue the walk along the corniche leading to Mutrah. A trading port and home to the old traditional souk. Stroll through its covered and winding alleys where buyers of fabrics, jewelry, perfumes, and art objects jostle.

Dinner in a traditional restaurant. You will appreciate the local gastronomy and the kindness of the Omani welcome.

DAY 3: MUSCAT – SUR – WAHIBA SANDS (340 km)

Departure south along the coast. Stop at the Sinkhole, a natural depression in the heart of the mountain where swimmers enjoy a vast pool of pure water. Head to Fins to reach Wadi Shab. Possibility to walk in the wadi bed dotted with shrubs, palm trees, and natural pools before lunch.

Arrival in Sur, a coastal city and active port all year round. Here, dhows, traditional wooden boats used by Arab sailors for millennia, are built. You will stroll along the coast between cliffs and small fishing villages.

Spend the late afternoon in the Wahiba Sands, a fascinating region of dunes. Aboard 4x4s, enter the desert frequented by Bedouins for over 7000 years. Discover their secret and hidden life, between two safe excursions.

Settle into a camp and watch the sunset. Dinner around the fire and evening under the stars.
