Main nesting site in the world
Ostional beach is considered the main nesting site in the world for turtles. Thousands of turtles settle each year on the coasts of Costa Rica. About 5 known species represent all the specimens in the country and ensure the reproduction of their species.
You may spot, around a beach, the largest turtle in the world: the Leatherback turtle. It is a spectacular species, due to its size which can reach 2.2 m and weigh up to 700 kg.

The maritime area is an integral part of Costa Rica. In fact, it is 10 times larger than the land area.
