Trip Description

A 3-day journey between desert, mountains, and Berber traditions, starting from Djerba! On the first day, cross the Roman causeway to discover the ksour of Médenine, stroll through the Tataouine market, explore the perched village of Chenini, and reach the Ksar Ghilane oasis for a magical night under a tent. The next day, head to Douz and its mythical dunes, then drive to Tozeur via the Chott El Jerid. Discover its ancient alleys, palm groves, and the film sets of Ong Jmel. On the third day, visit the spectacular mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides before discovering the famous troglodyte houses of Matmata. An immersive tour, between breathtaking landscapes and millennia-old cultural heritage.

day 1
Djerba – Ksar El Ferch – Ksar Haddada – Chenini – Ksar Ghilane
Start your adventure after breakfast, crossing the Roman causeway connecting Djerba to the mainland. Begin with a visit to the ksour (fortified granaries) of Médenine. Continue to Tataouine, renowned for its lively spice market. After lunch, explore on foot the ancient Berber village of Chenini, then head to Ksar Ghilane, a remote oasis nestled in the desert. There you will discover a natural hot spring surrounded by red sand dunes. Arrival at the EL PANSY hotel for a unique tent experience. Dinner will be served under the starry desert sky.

Ksar Ghilane – Douz – Chott El Jerid – Tozeur – Ong Jmel – Tozeur
After breakfast, depart for Douz, often called the "Gateway to the Sahara". Explore the lively market square, with the possibility of taking a camel ride through the majestic desert dunes. Continue towards Tozeur, crossing the immense salt lake of Chott El Jerid. After lunch, enjoy a visit to Tozeur, the largest oasis in Tunisia, and discover the historic district of Ouled el Hadef. In the late afternoon, take the desert tracks to reach Ong Jmel and Ariguette, famous filming locations for Star Wars, The English Patient, and Black Gold. Overnight at the Ras El Ain Tozeur hotel on a half-board basis.

Tozeur – Mountain oasis – Ong Jmel – Matmata – Médenine – Djerba
After breakfast, visit the magnificent mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides, former Roman military outposts that defended the borders of the Empire. Chebika offers a charming palm oasis fed by a spring nestled in the rocky mountains. Continue to Tamerza, where the river forms small picturesque waterfalls. Have lunch in a typical restaurant in Tamerza, in the oasis. After visiting the Mides canyon, continue your journey to Matmata to discover the troglodyte dwellings, unique underground homes carved into the hills. Return to Djerba via Mareth and Jorf.
