The four-day journey will take you from the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley escarpment to Narok County, the land of the Maa people. The Maasai Mara, world-renowned for hosting the epic great migration, sees more than 1.2 million wildebeest invade its vast savannahs. Next, Lake Naivasha dominates the landscape and is surrounded by a marsh that covers an area of about 62 km². Beyond the marshy areas, the lake is encircled by yellow acacia (fever tree) forests. Giraffes, zebras, impalas, and waterbucks can be observed in the immediate vicinity of Lake Naivasha, around Crescent Island, the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary, and Longonot National Park.
day 1
Nairobi (JKIA) - Maasai Mara National ReserveToday, you will be picked up at the airport or at your hotel, then a pre-departure briefing will be given to you at your hotel or at the airport, in your safari-ready vehicle. This always depends on your preference for the pick-up location. Next, you will cross the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley escarpment to Narok County, the land of the Maa people. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains, famous for the spectacular annual wildebeest migration and home to the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhinoceros. The inter-county borders are what have separated these two great national parks. You will arrive for lunch at the lodge or camp, then you can relax before heading out for the afternoon safari. Accommodation: Mara Chui Camp
day 2
Maasai Mara National ReserveOn the second day, you will wake up. Have your breakfast, ready to be served. Today, you will enjoy a full-day safari in the reserve, with your picnic lunch. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a preserved savannah area in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. The Mara Triangle, bordering the Mara River with its lush grasslands and acacia forests, is always ideal for safaris. The Mara is perhaps best known for the Great Migration, which takes place every year from July to September. During these months, the yellow savannah is dotted with black spots by more than 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes migrating from the Serengeti to the Mara in search of food and water. Accommodation: Mara Chui Camp
day 3
Masai Mara National Reserve - Lake Naivasha ParkAfter breakfast, head south, passing through Naivasha town and drive around the southern end of the lake, past the flower farms to the entrance of Hell’s Gate National Park. Soon after you enter the park, the impressive landscape unfolds before you: a semi-arid world with sheer rugged cliffs, open plains, and deep concealed gorges. An afternoon boat ride (at extra cost) among colonies of hippos will be an ideal way to view Lake Naivasha. There are many activities you can do in Hell’s Gate, including walking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching, and trekking through the gorge amongst the geysers—the choice is yours. Enjoy a picnic lunch, then, in mid-afternoon, depart for your accommodation on Lake Naivasha for a well-earned hot shower and a cold drink. Accommodation: Naivasha West Beach Camp
day 4
