7 Days Serengeti Western Corridor Wildebeest Migration tours, holidays, and travel packages have been designed specifically to focus on and increase your chances of seeing the great Serengeti wildebeest migration. We have created the program to include both the Seronera area (central Serengeti National Park) and the Western Corridor (western Serengeti National Park), where the majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found from May to July. During this time, the herds pause to gather momentum before crossing the crocodile-rich waters of the Grumeti River.
day 1
Arrival in ArushaYou'll meet our representative from Dancing Simba Safaris, who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha after your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK). Your overnight stay will be in Arusha town at Summit Safari Lodge or a similar accommodation. If you are interested, you can enjoy a short walking safari in Arusha town with your guide. You can visit the Maasai market and the Cultural Heritage, the house of gemstones. Accommodation: Summit Safari Lodge
day 2
Arusha to Tarangire National ParkDistance: 120 km Out-of-wildlife viewing time: 2 hours After breakfast, the tour begins. The first stop is Arusha town for any last-minute shopping before going on safari. Then you'll head to Tarangire National Park for a game drive with a picnic lunch at the park. Tarangire is well known for its huge elephant population and baobab trees. It forms the center of an annual migratory cycle that includes up to 3,000 elephants, 25,000 wildebeest, and 30,000 zebras, as well as lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, ostriches, warthogs, and acacia savannah. Our safari guide will drive to every side to ensure you enjoy your game drive away from the crowd of other safari jeeps, providing plenty of explanations. He will take you close to the Tarangire River, looking for animals that move to the river to drink during the day. At the same time, it is easy to witness hunting here, as predators also move to the river to find food. Later in the evening, your safari guide will drive you to your lodge accommodation. Accommodation: Hhando Coffee Lodge
day 3
Tarangire to Central Serengeti National ParkAfter breakfast, you'll depart for the Serengeti National Park via the high-altitude farmlands of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, leaving the highlands behind. At the Ngorongoro gate, you'll stop for a short briefing about the place and take pictures at the gate. Then, you'll proceed to the crater viewpoint and stop again to enjoy a great view of the Ngorongoro Crater, with an explanation from your safari guide. You'll enjoy taking pictures again. Then, you will proceed with a safari and descend into the heart of wild Africa—the Serengeti National Park—with its endless plains, rolling as far as the eye can see. Next, you'll head to the central area known as the Seronera area, one of the main wildlife habitats in the park, along with the Seronera River, which provides a source of water to this area and therefore attracts a fauna well representative of most Serengeti species. You'll enjoy lunch in the Serengeti and then proceed with the game drive until late afternoon, when you will drive to your luxury camp. Accommodation: Suenos de Africa Luxury Camp
day 4
Western Serengeti National ParkYou will start your game drive to the western corridor, searching for the great wildebeest migration over two days. Here, you will experience many beautiful days. After breakfast, you'll depart for the Western Serengeti. The best times to witness this magical movement of wildebeests are April, May, and June. During this period, wildebeests, along with their companions—zebras, elands, and gazelles—gather around the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, south of the Grumeti River. Pursued from behind by lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas, and threatened ahead by giant Nile crocodiles, many are attacked during the river crossing, while others choose to detour. However, the beauty of the landscape, stretching endlessly beneath an infinite sky on a Serengeti West Safari, transforms the observer, making one more aware of humankind's place within the drama of the animal world. You'll enjoy lunch in the west, surrounded by the sounds of wildebeests. After lunch, you'll continue with a game drive on the way to your accommodation. Accommodation: Mbalageti Serengeti
day 6
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation AreaYou'll wake up early in the morning, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and then leave with a packed breakfast to make sure you won't go hungry, allowing you to fully enjoy the game drive. Here, you will have a great chance to witness hunting, as predators are more active during the night and early morning, and they hunt frequently at that time. You will drive out of central Serengeti to the eastern (research) area, looking for cheetahs, lions on the rocks, and many other animals. (Remember, we drive to a controlled area away from the crowd of other safari jeeps.) This game drive offers the opportunity to witness the spectacular sunrise over the Serengeti. The drive will continue until early afternoon. After finishing the game drive, you'll have lunch and then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a game drive en route. Along the way, you may see more lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, and hyenas. Later, dinner and an overnight stay will be at Hhando Coffee Lodge.
