8-Day Congo Nile Trail

Hiking along Rwanda's most scenic route

Lake Kivu

The Congo Nile Trail is an exceptional gem for adventure travel. Nowhere else in sub-Saharan Africa have I (yet) discovered a route that is so stunning, feels so remote, and is so accessible to independent travelers. In the East African nation of Rwanda, a beautiful network of local roads and trails stretches along the shore of Lake Kivu. It is becoming more popular each year, but it currently provides the ideal combination of accessible infrastructure. Cycling the Congo Nile Trail along the shores of Lake Kivu on the Rwandan side offers a unique experience. Additional activities are included according to the full itinerary.

From this forest, Fossey fought against poachers, befriended gorillas, and wrote the stories that inspired the world to protect them.
