Embark on a 5-day safari to Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. See the Big Five and other wildlife on game drives, stay in comfortable lodges, and enjoy local cuisine.
day 1
Arusha – Tarangire National ParkAfter a short briefing in the morning, you will be taken to Tarangire National Park. The park, with its endless wooded savannah, including impressive baobabs and seasonal marshes, is also home to the largest herds of elephants in northern Tanzania. In addition to elephants, you will also have a great chance of spotting giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, wildebeests, as well as other types of antelopes and gazelles. Upon your arrival at the park, your guide will open the roof of the vehicle and the wildlife observation will begin. Lunch will be taken at a picnic area and, in the afternoon, you will discover even more of this incredible and magnificent park. In the late afternoon, you will arrive at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge to spend the night.
day 2
Tarangire Area – Serengeti National ParkAfter breakfast, you will depart towards the Rift Valley, passing through Mto Wa Mbu and Karatu, in the cooler regions of the crater highlands. You will enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and stop for a short look into the crater from a viewing point. Continuing your journey around the crater, you will descend to the other side, enjoying your free “African massage” on the bumpy road, passing Maasai villages on your way to the Serengeti National Park. At the Naabi Hill entrance gate, you can walk to a viewpoint with spectacular views across the plains of the Serengeti savannah. You will then continue towards the Seronera Area in the central part of the Serengeti. The park offers a multitude of wildlife, including the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. Late in the afternoon, you will arrive at the Serengeti Tented Camp or Kon Tiki Tented Camp. The camp is in a secluded area, in the heart of the bush, and the stars at night are breathtaking. Lunch will be enjoyed en route.
day 3
Serengeti National ParkAfter breakfast, you will spend the whole day on safari in Serengeti National Park and have lunch at a picnic area along the way. Depending on the time of year, you might even have the chance to witness the great migration, with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and Thomson's gazelles. During the short rainy season, in October and November, you will generally see these herds moving from the Kenyan Masai Mara through the northwest Serengeti towards the southern plains. After the long rainy season, in April, May, and June, the herds slowly return via the west and northwest of the Serengeti. With fluctuations in rainfall, this schedule can of course change, leading to migrations at other times and by other routes. Your guide will do everything possible to find the animals and ensure that you can observe them from the best spots in the national park. Naturally, the migration also attracts predators and, with a bit of luck, you might witness a hunting scene. You will spend another night at the Kati Kati Tented Camp.
day 4
Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – KaratuAfter breakfast at dawn, you will start your return journey early from the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, leaving behind the magnificent Seronera Valley. As predators are more active during the cool hours of the day, you might even see them in action. Lunch will be taken en route at a designated picnic spot. Upon reaching the crater rim, the 19 km wide caldera opens up before you in all its splendor, and you will descend into the crater via an adventurous trail. This World Heritage site is home, depending on the season, to more than 25,000 animals, including a wide variety of birds, hyenas, and the "Big Five": lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard. Exiting the crater by another ascent route, you will head to Karatu, in the Ngorongoro Highlands, where you will spend the night in one of the three beautifully located Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure lodges.
day 5
Karatu – ArushaAfter a relaxing breakfast, you will return to Arusha, arriving around noon. Those who wish to combine this safari with a trip to Zanzibar can take a flight from the local Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport. Lunch will be taken en route.
