Trip Description
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
On the first day, after your breakfast, our guide will pick you up at your accommodation, give you information about the entire safari, and take you on a journey of about 9 hours to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwestern Uganda. During the trip, we will stop at the Uganda Equator, the line that separates the world between the southern and northern hemispheres, to take some photos. At this spot, you can buy handicrafts and souvenirs before heading to the town of Mbarara where you will have your lunch. We will continue our journey and arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening. You will settle into the lodge, relax, and have dinner as you prepare for the Bwindi gorilla trekking the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking and cultural visit
After an early breakfast, take your packed lunch and head to the park headquarters where the rangers will give you a brief briefing on the precautions to take, vital information about the Gorilla Trekking activity, and give you the opportunity to ask any questions before setting off in search of the gorillas. You will be divided into groups of 8 according to your pace. You will then set off, accompanied by two armed forest rangers, into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where the mountain gorillas live, for a gorilla trekking. Depending on the day and where your gorilla family is located, it will take you between 1 and 8 hours to find them. Once you have found them (and you will always find them), you will have one hour to interact, take photos, and generally be amazed at what you are witnessing. However, the gorillas need space, as they are wild animals. You should also expect to walk long distances in the mud and on steep slopes, which requires a walking stick.
Day 3: Transfer to Kampala
After an early breakfast, we set off on a 9-hour journey to Kampala passing through the beautiful Kigezi highlands (the Switzerland of Africa) and the Ntungamo Matooke plantations. We will have lunch in Mbarara, then go to see the drum makers of Mbambire before heading to Kampala where you can spend the night in a guest house or a designated hotel, or depart.
If you wish to stay in Kampala for an extra night, you must let us know so that we can book accommodation for you.
