day 2
Tsavo EastDrive to Tsavo East National Park. Arrival for lunch, followed by an early evening safari, then return to the lodge/camp after sunset. The abundant wildlife of Tsavo will always amaze you, and the sight of red-dusted elephants wallowing, rolling, and spraying each other in the midnight blue waters of the Galana River, in the shade of palm trees, is one of the most evocative images of Africa. With the Yatta Plateau, 300 kilometers long, the longest lava flow in the world, this makes for a unique adventure in eastern Tsavo. The park forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the large mammals: vast herds of red elephants, rhinoceroses, buffaloes, lions, leopards, groups of hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudus, gerenuks, as well as prolific birdlife with 500 recorded species.
