The tour starts from Helsinki and ends up in Rovaniemi - or the other way down. On the way, you will stop for two days either in Kuopio or Paltamo in a special hotel with magnificent views, as well as in Kemi by the Gulf of Bothnia. Your end destination is the Pyhä-Luosto area in northeastern Lapland.

Trip Description

Lapland by Rail is offered throughout the year with the exception of 15.12.-6.1. The sample tour here is a winter version. In summer the route is the same but with different activities like paddling, hiking, river rafting, citygolf and cycling. All activities and accommodations can be adapted to your wishes, Destinations: - Helsinki offers a lot to do self-guided at the weekend, all museums are open on Saturday and Sunday and you can always find also cultural events from concerts to ice-hockey for example. - Kuopio is a small town by lake Kallavesi. This new hotel has been built right next to the lake, offering great views over the ice and a wild skating route up to 12km. Paltamo is located in northern Finland, but not quite in Lapland yet. This hilltop hotel is unique, and as you can imagine, the landscape opening up from your window is amazing. A long snowshoeing trip will take you to the winter forest. - Kemi is a small industrial town located by the Gulf of Bothnia, best known for its snow gallery and icebreaker cruises. We are taking you to see the snow sculptures, but also on a sleigh ride over the ice to enjoy the campfire and observe the northern lights. You will stay at a charming hotel at the railway station, so it will be easy to continue by early morning train to Kemijärvi and by bus further to Pyhä. - Pyhä-Luosto National Park is dominated by two Arctic hills, Pyhä and Luosto. Pyhä is an active ski village with a wide variety of activities to choose from. Luosto is a smaller, less illuminated village. The idea is to offer the best possible circumstances for northern lights watching - one night in igloo accommodation and two nights in Luosto. There is even a trail around a small pond you can take on your own and look at the northern sky. Activities: - Wild skating in Kuopio OR snowshoeing in Paltamo - Visiting the snow gallery and park, as well as a sleigh ride to a campfire in Kemi - Wilderness skiing and Finnish sauna, and one optional activity in Pyhä - Dogsledding 15km in Luosto

  • day 6:

    Pyhä, wilderness skiing & snow igloo

    6:02-8:50 Train from Kemi to Kemijärvi, bus to Pyhä, classic wilderness skiing (or snowshoeing or e-fatbiking), night in snow igloo accommodation outside the ski village by lake Pyhä

  • day 7:

    Pyhä, winter activities

    11-13:30 Ice-fishing, snowsurfing, snowshoeing or skin-based skiing 2.5h each OR a downhill skiing day, ice-climbing 2h or e-fatbiking 2h , transfer to Luosto, night in a standard hotel room

  • day 8:

    Luosto, dogsleadding

    14-17:30 Husky safari 15km, dinner á la carte own cost, night in a standard hotel room

  • day 9:

    Departure

    6:50-8:20 (or later) Bus from Luosto to Rovaniemi airport, direct flight back - or train back to Helsinki
