Trip Description

To combine a discovery tour and a relaxing stay. You will be able to visit the major sites without rushing, explore the contrasting regions of the largest island in the Mediterranean, and take the time to enjoy the sea, local life, and the many protected natural areas. One week of touring in B&Bs, hotels, and one week of relaxing stay in a residence or self-catering rental. Itinerary: Palermo, Agrigento, Baroque Sicily, Etna and the Aeolian Islands, followed by a relaxing seaside week in the Taormina or Cefalù region. Possibility to spend the relaxing week on one of the Aeolian Islands for optimal disconnection.

    Arrival in Palermo

    Arrival at Palermo airport Drive to the Trapani region. Check-in at a 4* hotel overlooking the Gulf of Zingaro. Overnight in Val d'Erice.

    Erice - Segesta

    Exploration of western Sicily with a visit to the medieval village of Erice, perched like an eagle's nest above Trapani. Visit of Segesta and its splendid Doric temple. Drive to Agrigento. Check-in at the end of the day in a seaside hotel near Agrigento. Possibility of a walk from your hotel to the natural site of the Scala dei Turchi, a huge white marl cliff that plunges into the sea. Night in Agrigento.

Possibility to book a guide lecturer for 2 hours. You can complete the visit with the museum to discover the collections of Greek statues and the colossi... Drive to Piazza Armerina to visit the site of the Villa Romana del Casale with its 4000 m² of mosaics that tell us about ancient Rome. Continue to Caltagirone, the capital of ceramics in Sicily for nearly 3000 years; then the unusual village of Palazzolo Acreide, a former Greek then Roman city. Check-in for 1 night in a typical agritourism of the Sicilian countryside. Night in Palazzolo.

    Discovery of so-called Baroque Sicily, dotted with art cities with exuberant architecture, this itinerary has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Stroll through the jewel cities of Baroque architecture, Ragusa, Noto, and take a break in the fishing village of Marzamemmi for a raw fish lunch experience... This region is one of the most surprising and fascinating in Southern Italy. Check-in at the hotel in the Syracuse area at the end of the day. Overnight in Syracuse.

    Syracuse

    Visit to the archaeological site of Neapoli, remains of the most powerful Greek city in the Mediterranean: the theater, the agora, the Latomies, marble quarries. You can spend the rest of the day in the historic center, the Ortigia peninsula: the Maniace fortress, the cathedral built on a Greek temple, the Caravaggio painting... Enjoy the "dolce vita" atmosphere of Syracuse for an evening at a restaurant on the terraces and the Aretusa fountain. Night in agritourism in Syracuse.

    Catania and Taormina

    Catania et Taormina

    Departure in the morning for the Ionian coast. Stop in Catania, visit of the city, economic and cultural capital of Sicily, including a walk through the famous fish market. You can follow the Cyclops coast with its medieval villages, interspersed with large flows of lava stone. Then, the Taormina corniche, one of the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean. Afternoon visit to the lovely seaside resort called the "Ionian Pearl." Check-in at the end of the day in a seaside village at the gates of Taormina. Night in Taormina (or Giarre).

    Etna

    Departure as early as possible in the morning to reach Etna, with the possibility of ascending up to 1290 m by cable car + 4x4 jeep (optional). Or environmental discovery with a walking excursion on the northern slopes, a short hike around the major historic lava flows. Stroll along the coastal roads and beaches of Isola Bella. Relaxation and overnight stay in Taormina (or in Giarre).
