Here, moose, deer, foxes, hares, and wild boars live in complete tranquility. Our wildlife safari takes place at dusk, the ideal time to go and meet the animals, and in particular the “kings of the forest” (moose), which generally roam at sunset to graze and look for water. Your guide welcomes you aboard our small comfortable minivan before leaving the city and heading toward one of the most wildlife-rich regions around Stockholm. Passage by Lake Siljan
Your adventure begins with picking up your vehicle in downtown Stockholm. Leave the urban hustle and bustle behind to head into Sweden’s iconic landscapes, bound for Rättvik, on the shores of the majestic Lake Siljan. To break up the journey and delight the children, we suggest two strategic stops: - Sala Silvergruve (the Sala silver mine): halfway there, dive into the depths of the earth. A guided tour of the galleries is a memorable adventure. Admission included in the quote. - Avesta and the largest Dalarna horse: a photo stop is a must in Avesta to see the world’s largest Dalahäst (wooden horse). Right next door, the Avesta Visentpark lets you observe European bison in semi-freedom.
day 6
Descent to OrebroAfter enjoying the serenity of Lake Siljan, you get back on the road heading south towards Örebro, a dynamic city where medieval history meets modern adventure. Örebro's city center is dominated by its impressive medieval castle, surrounded by moats. Visit to Örebro Castle: the castle offers “ghost tours” (depending on the season) and treasure hunt trails. Guides in period costume tell stories of kings, prisoners, and sieges, bringing history to life. Wadköping (open-air museum): a few minutes' walk from the castle, this historic district transports the family to Sweden of yesteryear. You will find artisans at work (blacksmith, glassblower) and charming traditional candy shops. Lost City (Gustavsvik water park): if the children still have energy, this tropical water park is one of the largest in Scandinavia, with its dizzying slides and indoor jungle.
day 7
Heading to Smaland
Leave the medieval city of Örebro for a total immersion in the wild and authentic nature of central Sweden. This stage brings you closer to the cradle of the stories of our childhood. Tiveden National Park: about 1h south of Örebro, it is one of Sweden’s wildest parks. The trails wind between enormous Ice Age boulders and natural caves. The route around Stenkälla is a real adventure for children who love climbing and exploring. Then arrive in Järnforsen, a peaceful village ideally located for exploring the Hultsfred and Vimmerby region. Immersion in Astrid Lindgren’s World (Vimmerby) This is where the stories of Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga and Ronya, robber’s daughter, come to life. It is not an amusement park with noisy rides, but a huge theme park made up of life-size sets. You stroll through film sets, among birch forests and traditional red farms. It is a celebration of childhood and imagination.
day 8
Serenity Day and "King of the Forest": between lake and moose
This stop is a true parenthesis of softness in the heart of Småland, designed to savor the slow rhythm of Swedish nature before meeting its most emblematic inhabitant. Start the day gently on the shores of Lake Järnforsen. Far from the hustle and bustle, it’s the perfect place to experience the Swedish way of life. Enjoy the small sandy beach and the crystal-clear water. Children will enjoy a refreshing swim or a fishing session by the dock. It’s the ideal time for a peaceful picnic! Use one of the barbecue areas set up near the lake (very common in Sweden) to grill a few local specialties. Only 15 minutes’ drive away, get ready for one of the highlights of the trip: a visit to the Målilla moose park. Unlike a classic zoo, here, you enter vast natural enclosures. You will be able to observe these majestic animals up close, as well as fallow deer. Children will be delighted to be able to feed the moose with birch branches handed out by the keepers, or to take unique photos just a few meters away.
from day 9 to day 10
Descent to the Archipelago
Halfway through, take a break in the charming village of Högsby. A small museum there is dedicated to the cinema icon Greta Garbo, whose mother was originally from the region. It’s a quick and elegant cultural stop. The road passes through several small villages with wooden or stone churches, typical of Småland, perfect for a few photos of authentic rural landscapes. Just before arriving, you can make a stop at Fallebo Gard. This natural area is ideal for a final walk in the forest or a meeting with the farm animals. End your route by sitting on one of Europe’s longest wooden benches to watch the ferries depart for the island of Gotland. It’s the perfect place for an ice cream with the family after the drive.
day 11
The Mysterious Island of Blå Jungfrun
Nicknamed Blåkulla in Swedish folklore, this blue granite island is reputed to be the gathering place of witches. It is a land of contrasts, between rocks polished by ice and dense deciduous forests. Departure is from the port of Oskarshamn. Allow about 1h20 of sailing. It is a special moment to observe the coast receding and the massive silhouette of the island taking shape on the horizon. Upon your landing, you will be welcomed by national park guides, who will give you the safety instructions and the secrets of the island. The island is explored on foot via a circular trail of 3.3 km. Explore cavities such as Jungfrukammaren or Kyrkan (the Church), impressive rock formations that will captivate children's imagination.
from day 12 to day 13
Back to civilizationAfter a week full of discoveries in Småland and the Oskarshamn archipelago, you hit the road north again to return to Stockholm. About 2h drive from Oskarshamn, this town is perfect for a lunch break. The historic industrial district, with its rivers and its former textile mills converted for new uses, is magnificent to explore on foot.
