Nesselwang - Bad HindelangA day through the snowy spaces of the alpine pastures, between the Alpspitze and the Reuterwanne, up to the Tyrolean enclave on German territory of Jungholz (1058 m), a small village of 300 inhabitants, only connected to Tyrol by the tip of the Sorgschrofen (1638 m). Stopover at Bad Hindelang, very close... but in Allgäu (Austria). Walking time: about 5 hours. Positive elevation gain: + 400 m. Negative elevation loss: - 250 m. Accommodation: hotel or gasthof (inn). Meals included: breakfast - lunch (picnic) - dinner.
day 3
Jungholz - Tannheim (or Schattwald)Walk in the Allgäu near Unterjoch, before returning to Tyrol and the village of Schattwald, nestled in a cirque surrounded by mountains. It's hard to tell the difference between the 2 countries! Walking time: about 5 hours. Ascent: +300 m. Descent: -350 m. Accommodation: hotel or gasthof (inn) in Tannheim or Schattwald. Meals included: breakfast - lunch (picnic) - dinner.
day 4
Tannheim (Schattwald) - Vilsalpsee LakeA day discovering a beautiful frozen lake and the sources of the Vils, in the heart of the preserved setting of the Vispalpsee nature reserve. Stopover in the Tannheim valley. Walking time: about 5 hours. Ascent: +200 m. Descent: -200 m. Accommodation: hotel or gasthof (inn) in Tannheim or Schattwald. Meals included: breakfast – lunch (picnic) – dinner.
day 5
Tannheim (or Schattwald) - Pfronten - HohenschwangauWe will reach the village of Pfronten, dominated by the Falkenstein and the ruins of its castle… Ludwig II of Bavaria had considered building an even more gigantic castle there than Neuschwanstein! To get there, a beautiful crossing through the snowy alpine pastures of the Achtal valley towards Pfronten is planned. Possible alternative via the Vilstal (+150 m, -350 m). Then transfer to Hohenschwangau, at the foot of the Bavarian castles. Walking time: about 5 hours. Positive elevation gain: +200 m. Negative elevation gain: -350 m. Accommodation: hotel or gasthof (inn) in Hohenschwangau. Meals included: breakfast - lunch (picnic) - dinner.
day 6
Bavarian Castles - End of the stayHere we are in a fabulous natural setting, admiring on one side Hohenschwangau, the family castle, and on the other, Neuschwanstein, the fairy-tale castle built by Ludwig II of Bavaria. Visit of Neuschwanstein, a fantastic castle proudly standing on its natural promontory: the unfinished masterpiece of Ludwig II... The baroque interior is extravagant, with limitless luxury for the time, and boundless imagination... Snowshoe walk above the castle, then we will return by bus to Füssen, a beautiful medieval town, in the early afternoon. End of the stay. Meals included: breakfast - lunch (picnic). Meals not included: dinner.
