Day 2 : Desert castles, Amman

Magnificent examples of the architecture and art of the beginning of the Islamic era, the desert castles bear witness to a fascinating era inscribed in the country's rich history. The refinement of their mosaics, frescoes, illustrations and engravings on stone and stucco, in the pure Persian and Greco-Roman tradition, give us a glimpse of the way of life in the 8th century.

Lunch at Al Azraq.

Back in Amman, visit the capital of the Hashemite kingdom. From the top of the citadel, we can admire a nice view of the lower town. We will visit the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace and the Archaeological Museum. Then, we will take a short panoramic tour of the city center, which has preserved a beautiful Greco-Roman amphitheater.

Day 3 : Jerash, Umm Qais

Today we will join the north of Jordan to discover the Greco-Roman city of Jerash. The city had its golden age under the Roman reign, then called Gerasa. Today, this site is considered as one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Hidden under the sand for several centuries before being discovered and restored for 70 years, Jerash exemplifies extensive and formal Roman municipal planning throughout the Middle East. It is adorned with cobbled streets, colonnades, immense temples on the crest of hills, charming theaters, spacious public squares, thermal baths, fountains and walls pierced by towers and gates.

This afternoon, we'll take the road to Umm Qais, the ancient Gadara. Site of the famous "pig miracle", Gadara was famous at the time as a cultural center. Several poets and philosophers have lived there, as Theodore, founder of the school of rhetoric in Rome. A poet even called this city "the new Athens". Perched on the crest of a splendid hill overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Sea of ​​Galilee, Gadara is known today as Umm Qais. It is renowned for its huge vaulted terrace and colonnaded streets as well as for the ruins of two theaters.

Day 4 : King's Road, Madaba, Mount Nebo, Kerak, Petra

Departure for Petra by taking part of the Kings Road linking Aqaba to Amman. Stop at Madaba, a biblical site with 14 Byzantine churches. Visit of St. George's church, famous for its 6th century mosaic depicting the oldest map of Palestine and Jerusalem. Continue to Mount Nebo to enjoy the panorama of the Jordan Valley and the memorial of Moses, with its Byzantine frescoes. Road to Kerak, a large fortress built by the Crusaders in the 12th century.

Day 5 : Petra

This day is dedicated to Petra, the Pink City. To get there, we will have to cross the Siq, a kilometer of narrow gorge lined with 80m high cliffs! The dazzling colors and formations of the rocks will lead us to the magnificent Treasure (Al-Khazneh) carved out of the sandstone rock. The UNESCO World Heritage site is huge and contains hundreds of rock-hewn tombs, a Roman amphitheater, temples, a sacrificial altar and a colonnaded street.

Day 6 : little Petra, desert of Wadi Rum

In the morning, visit of the little Petra then we take the road towards the desert of Wadi Rum. If Petra is the result of the work of man combined with that of nature, the cliffs, peaks and valleys of Wadi Rum owe only to themselves their "serene beauty" and their "overwhelming grandeur", according to the words of TE Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia.

In the afternoon, explore this majestic desert on a 2 hours ride in a 4X4. Dinner and overnight in a camp.

Day 7 : Desert of Wadi Rum, Dead Sea, Amman

This morning we will join the Dead Sea through the Wadi Araba desert which marks the border between Jordan and Israel. We will discover the Wadi Al-Mujib gorge before reaching our seaside hotel.

Lunch at the hotel.

In the afternoon, swim in the Dead Sea, relax floating in the salt water or chill near the pool.
