Arrival at Katunayake Airport and greeted at the garlands of flowers by a representative of Aitken Spence.

Direct transfer to Sigiriya and hotel facilities.

Upon arrival at your room, a bottle of wine and a fruit basket will be offered.

Day 2 : Road to Kandalama

After breakfast, visit the Citadel of Sigiriya or "Lion's Rock", a romantic and grandiose ancient site with the world-famous frescoes of the "Ladies of Sigiriya". Climb up the Sigiriya Rock fortress which dates back to the 10th century and is now the World Heritage Site built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of rare beauty at a height of over 200 metres from the jungle. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens are at the base of the rock. Visit a grandiose and ancient site, which is littered with the world-famous frescoes, the "Ladies of Sigiriya". 

Return to the hotel and free time to enjoy an Ayurvedic message at the hotel (not included) or take advantage of the swimming pool.

Optional: SIGIRIYA REGION IN MOUNTAIN MOUNTAIN
This is surely one of the most unforgettable experiences, whose memory will be the impressive view of the cultural triangle in the wind.

Flying over the jungle you will be able to observe free roaming elephants, buffaloes, natural lakes, hectares of rice fields, typical villages in a lush green setting. In short, just let yourself be carried away and contemplate the most beautiful landscapes of the island.

You will take a seat in the balloon's basket for a flight of about 1 hour, around the villages and lakes of the region. The departure is early in the morning (04h30-5h) and the return to a more down-to-earth visit is scheduled 1 hour later.




Day 3 : Road to Kandy

Breakfast at the hotel and you leave in the direction of Kandy.

En route visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which was built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC and is now a World Heritage Site. You will pass from room to room to discover magnificent sculptures of Buddhas. Its walls and ceilings, covered with colourful paintings, represent the largest air of frescoes in the world. Be careful when visiting this temple, you are required to wear clothes that cover your knees and shoulders.

Continue to Kandy and check in at the hotel. Former colonial residence built in 1940. Idyllic place for its calm and natural environment.

Day 4 : KANDY

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a walk in the Peradeniya Botanical Garden.

Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden is located about 5.5 km west of Kandy City in the Central Province of Sri Lanka and attracts 2 million visitors every year. It is famous for its collection of a variety of orchids. It includes more than 4,000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palms. Attached to it is the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka. The total area of the Botanical Garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 metres above sea level, and with an annual rainfall of 200 days. It is managed by the National Botanic Gardens Division of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Deputy Director of the Botanical Garden in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, around 1910.

Afterwards, free time for a personal discovery of the city of Kandy. Kandy has an old town around a very large lake for pleasant walks.

In the late afternoon, attend the religious ceremony at the Temple of the Sacred Dente in Kandy around (6:30 pm).

Kandy, the capital of Buddhism, situated at 350m altitude and bordered by hills, naturally ordered around the Sacred Lake.

Cultural centre of the country, the city fell into English hands in 1815. Nestled in a green valley (between the last rice fields and the first tea plantations), surrounded by low hills and buckled by the Mahaweli, the largest river in Sri Lanka, Kandy remains a centre for handicrafts, music and dance. Charm, splendour of the past and serenity describe the city. Visit the Royal Palace, the Temple of the Tooth or "Dalada Maligawa" which contains the sacred relic of the Tooth of Buddha. Attention for the visit of this temple, it is required to wear clothes that cover the knees and shoulders.

Day 5 : Road to the famous tea route

Breakfast at the hotel and then take the famous Tea Route towards Ramboda.

You will discover the "tea country": The plantations give the landscape a very special aspect. Amateurs know that the flavour and quality of tea depends on the altitude where the plant was grown. The harvest is always carried out by women. The pickers, dressed in brightly coloured "longhis", go from bush to bush, skilfully stripping the young buds and tender leaves with one hand and then, with a quick gesture, throw them into the hood attached to their shoulders.

Visit a tea factory and you will be able to understand the process of making this much-loved beverage. Why not take advantage of this visit to taste one of the teas, reputed to be the best in the world?

Arrival at Nuwara Eliya and free time to visit the town of Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya called "Little England". This mountain resort (1900m altitude) lies in an elliptical shaped valley at the foot of Mount Pidurutalagala (2520m) the highest peak in Ceylon. This charming English town attracts tourists for its peaceful setting and also Sri Lankans for the various cultural events. Nuwara Eliya dates back to the English colonization but has kept the British charm ever since. During your visit, you will find English architecture but you will also be in the heart of an incredible nature.

Day 6 : A visit to Horton Plains

Early in the morning, around 6.00 am departure for the visit of Horton Plains for a walking tour (3-4 hours walking). Breakfast to take away.

Horton Plains Park is a protected area in the mountains of central Sri Lanka and is covered by mountain meadows and cloud forest. This plateau at an altitude of 2,100-2,300 6,900-7,500 metres (ft) is rich in biodiversity and many of the species found here are endemic to the area. This area was designated a national park in 1988. It is also a popular tourist destination and is located 32 kilometres (20 miles) from Nuwara Eliya. This is the wettest area so it can get quite cold and it is advisable to bring warm clothing.

Return to your hotel and free time.

Day 7 : Go on safari in Yala National Park

In the afternoon, go on a half-day safari in the Yala National Park.

The Yala National Park: the former hunting reserve, which has been transformed into a nature park since 1938, covers an area of 1,500 km². It is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elephants, leopards, wild buffaloes, black bears, jackals and macaques, crocodiles, wild boars and many other animals. This national park is also a paradise for birds, there are more than 130 species of birds, both endemic and migratory. The park has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world.
