About 1,000 km off the Ecuadorian coast, the Galápagos archipelago, consisting of 19 volcanic islands, is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including iguanas, birds, tortoises, sharks, and sea lions.
The valley of the volcanoes has more than forty volcanoes along the Andes mountain range, between Quito and Riobamba. Cotopaxi, the highest active Ecuadorian volcano, and Reventador are in constant activity. Stay in a typical Ecuadorian hacienda on the Avenue of the Volcanoes.
Spanning nearly half the country, the Amazon rainforest offers lodges in the heart of the jungle to explore the surrounding nature during hikes.

Climbing one of the three volcanoes in Sangay National Park is an unforgettable experience. The choice is between the Altar (5,320 m), the Tungurahua (5,016 m), and the Sangay (5,230 m). Each peak offers a breathtaking view of the local wildlife, including the majestic Andean condor.
Montanita, once a fishing village, is now a seaside resort popular with surfers, hippies, and backpackers. Located west of Guayaquil, it offers a relaxed atmosphere by the Pacific Ocean.
The cocoa route is an adventure through the Andean hinterland. Like a wine route, embark on a hike to meet local producers and discover unique aromas. It is here that the oldest traces of chocolate are said to have been found.
Extreme Activities and Thrills in Ecuador
In Ecuador, the diversity of landscapes offers a multitude of varied activities. Whether you are an aspiring or seasoned athlete, you'll be spoilt for choice. The country is ideal for treks: you can traverse the Andean páramo for several days without encountering a soul. You can also climb volcanoes with glowing craters and mountains with snow-capped peaks, sometimes reaching over 6,000 m. Galloping in the wind on trails once used by Inca messengers is also a unique experience. In Baños and Misahualli, at the gateway to the Oriente, you can try canoeing, rafting, canopy (zip-lining), or canyoning before cycling along the Route of the Waterfalls. Surfers will find the best spots on the Pacific coast at Montañita, while others will dive and snorkel in the Galápagos or off Puerto Lopez, such as on Los Frailes beach or Isla de la Plata.
