The tour starts in Helsinki and ends in Rovaniemi—or the other way around. Along the way, you will stop for two days in either Kuopio or Paltamo, staying at a special hotel with magnificent views. You will also visit Kemi by the Gulf of Bothnia. Your final destination is the Pyhä-Luosto area in northeastern Lapland.

Lapland by Rail is offered throughout the year, with the exception of 15.12–6.1. The sample tour here is a winter version. In summer, the route is the same but features different activities such as paddling, hiking, river rafting, city golf, and cycling. All activities and accommodations can be adapted to your wishes. Destinations: - Helsinki offers a lot to do on a self-guided basis during the weekend. All museums are open on Saturday and Sunday, and you can always find cultural events, from concerts to ice hockey, for example. - Kuopio is a small town by Lake Kallavesi. This new hotel has been built right next to the lake, offering great views over the ice and a wild skating route up to 12 km. - Paltamo is located in northern Finland, but not quite in Lapland yet. This hilltop hotel is unique, and as you can imagine, the landscape opening up from your window is amazing. A long snowshoeing trip will take you into the winter forest. - Kemi is a small industrial town located by the Gulf of Bothnia, best known for its snow gallery and icebreaker cruises. We are taking you to see the snow sculptures, but also on a sleigh ride over the ice to enjoy the campfire and observe the northern lights. You will stay at a charming hotel at the railway station, making it easy to continue by early morning train to Kemijärvi and by bus further to Pyhä. - Pyhä-Luosto National Park is dominated by two Arctic hills, Pyhä and Luosto. Pyhä is an active ski village with a wide variety of activities to choose from. Luosto is a smaller, less illuminated village. The idea is to offer the best possible circumstances for northern lights watching—one night in igloo accommodation and two nights in Luosto. There is even a trail around a small pond you can take on your own to look at the northern sky. Activities: - Wild skating in Kuopio OR snowshoeing in Paltamo - Visiting the snow gallery and park, as well as a sleigh ride to a campfire in Kemi - Wilderness skiing and Finnish sauna, and one optional activity in Pyhä - Dogsledding 15 km in Luosto

Helsinki - Double/twin hotel room (4 stars), also connected rooms for families. Kuopio/Paltamo - Superior suite, also connected suites for families. Kemi - Boutique hotel rooms for 1-3. Pyhä - Snow igloo for 1-6. Luosto - Double/twin/family hotel room (3-4 stars).

    11:19–15:35: Train from Helsinki to Kuopio OR 11:19–18:10: Train from Helsinki to Paltamo. Transfer, dinner, and overnight stay in a hotel suite by the lake in Kuopio OR in a panorama cabin in Paltamo.

    Wild skating or snowshoeing

    Wild skating on ice for up to 12.5 km, or snowshoeing 3–4 km, with a picnic lunch and dinner. Night in a hotel suite or in a panorama cabin.

    Kemi, Northern Lights Camp

    Transfer to the railway station. 7:15–13:23: Train from Kuopio to Kemi OR 9:51–13:23: Train from Paltamo to Kemi. Visit the snow gallery. Dinner. 21:00–23:00: Evening campfire on an island. Night in a small boutique hotel at the Kemi railway station.

    Pyhä, wilderness skiing & snow igloo

    6:02–8:50: Train from Kemi to Kemijärvi, then bus to Pyhä. Enjoy classic wilderness skiing, snowshoeing, or e-fatbiking. Spend the night in a snow igloo accommodation outside the ski village by Lake Pyhä.

    Pyhä, winter activities

    11:00–13:30: Ice fishing, snow surfing, snowshoeing, or skin-based skiing (2.5 hours each), OR a downhill skiing day, ice climbing (2 hours), or e-fatbiking (2 hours). Transfer to Luosto. Night in a standard hotel room.

  • dag 8

    Luosto, dog sledding

    14:00–17:30 Husky safari (15 km), dinner à la carte at your own cost, and overnight stay in a standard hotel room.

  • dag 9

    Departure

    6:50–8:20 (or later): Bus from Luosto to Rovaniemi Airport, direct flight back, or train back to Helsinki.
