Morning gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake BunyonyiAfter breakfast, you will go gorilla trekking in Mount Mgahinga. The trek may take between 2-6 hours, depending on where the ranger guides have located the gorillas. Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga is one of the highlights of a Uganda safari, bringing you as close as possible to a habituated mountain gorilla family within their natural environment. Hiking up the volcanic slopes of Mgahinga National Park to find the mountain gorillas and spending one intense, uninterrupted hour with them in the bamboo jungle is a travel adventure every traveler should experience. You will be required to bring face masks, raingear, a hat, mosquito repellent, a camera, jungle shoes, and long sleeves. After returning from the bush, you will proceed to Lake Bunyonyi for your overnight stay at Kyahugye Island or Keije Resort.

Full day at Lake BunyonyiAfter breakfast, you will explore the scenic Lake Bunyonyi, famous for its 29 islands. Among them is the historically significant Akampene Island, also known as “Punishment Island.” In the past, unmarried pregnant girls were left on this island by their families and local Bakiga community members, reflecting old local traditions, while those responsible for the pregnancies often faced no punishment. Today, the island serves as a poignant historical and cultural site. You can choose to explore the islands by dugout canoe or motorboat, depending on your preference. Along the way, you will also have the opportunity to visit local traditional healers, gaining insight into indigenous customs and practices—an enriching cultural experience included in your package. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Accommodation: Keije Resort
