Set off on a unique adventure through the rugged landscapes and perched villages of Djebel Dahar, the cradle of Amazigh culture in southern Tunisia. For three days, walk along ancient paths connecting Matmata, Tamezret, Zeraoua, Ksar Hallouf, Zammour, and Chenini, to the rhythm of encounters and traditions. This unique tour combines hiking, cultural discovery, and local gastronomy. Each stage is punctuated by culinary workshops led by locals – preparing couscous, tabouna bread, chakchouka... for a sensory and human immersion in the heart of Dahar. Between troglodyte accommodations, desert landscapes, and shared meals, experience an authentic adventure, far from the beaten path.
day 1
Djerba – Matmata – Tamezret – Zeraoua* Departure by 4x4 at 7:30 am from your accommodation in Djerba. * Arrival in Matmata, visit of the troglodyte dwellings. * Start of the hike towards Tamezret, then Zeraoua, a small Amazigh village. * Cooking workshop: traditional wood-fired couscous with the women of the village. * Dinner and overnight at Dar Ayed in Tamezret. * Walk: ~10 km – Elevation gain: moderate.
day 2
Zeraoua – Ksar Hallouf – Zammour* Departure on foot to Ksar Hallouf, visit of the fortified granaries. * Outdoor lunch with local specialties. * Arrival at Zammour, welcome by the inhabitants. * Cooking workshop: tabouna bread and chakchouka with local olive oil. * Night in the troglodyte house Dar Ennaim in Zammour. * Walk: ~12 km – Elevation: moderate to sustained.
day 3
Zammour – Chenini – Return to Djerba* Hike to Chenini, a perched village with a panoramic view. * Visit of the village with a local guide and tea break with the inhabitants. * Cooking workshop: Berber dish + traditional lunch * Return transfer by 4×4 to Djerba (arrival in the late afternoon) * Walk: ~10 km – Elevation gain: light to moderate
