The landscape is typical of the highlands, with terraced slopes and rice fields in the heart of the valleys. Stop at Marozevo to visit the small Pereyras reserve, a breeding and reproduction center for many species of butterflies, chameleons, reptiles, and amphibians native to Madagascar. This center aims to repopulate regions where these species are threatened with extinction due to constant deforestation and frequent bush fires. Continue towards Andasibe. Andasibe

    Andasibe

Departure for a walking discovery (2 to 3 hours of walking) of the exceptional Analamazaotra Special Reserve, where the legendary indri (Indri indri), endemic to this region, lives. It is the largest of the lemurs (size of 65 cm and weight around 25 kg) and also the loudest, known for its plaintive call. Unlike all other lemurs, it has no tail, only a stump in its place. The indri is also the only monogamous species; if one of the pair dies, the other will remain widowed and spend the rest of its life raising its offspring. This reserve is also home to 11 other species of diurnal and nocturnal lemurs, such as the common brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus fulvus), the red-bellied lemur (Eulemur rubriventer), the woolly avahi (Avahi laniger), the eastern lesser bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus), and the black-and-white ruffed lemur or ruffed lemur (Varecia variegata). Enigmatic insects, chameleons, tenrecs, and colorful birds can be observed during the guided hike in the jungle. The lush vegetation will also reveal its riches: endless lianas, pandanus, precious trees such as rosewood, tree ferns, lichens, epiphytic orchids, medicinal plants, etc. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, visit the lemur island at Vakona Park, a small sanctuary dedicated to the protection of animals living there in semi-freedom. An optional night walk is offered.
