Arrival in NegomboReception at the airport by a member of our team, then check-in at the hotel in Negombo, the little Rome. After a short restorative nap, boat tour of the Hamilton canal to discover many animals. Sunset over the lagoon, where you can see the shrimp fishermen setting up their nets.
day 2
AnuradhapuraDeparture for Anuradhapura (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the ancient capital of Sri Lanka from the 4th century BC until the 10th century. Accompanied by a multitude of monkeys, you will visit many temples and sanctuaries, as well as the "Sri Maha Bodhi," the Bodhi fig tree of Buddha, whose cutting was brought in the 3rd century BC by Sanghamitta, founder of a female Buddhist order.
day 3
Sigiriya and DambullaIn the early morning, ascent of the Lion Rock in Sigiriya (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), one of the mythical sites in the history of Sri Lanka, rising to 370 m high. After this magnificent visit, you will climb into a cart pulled by buffaloes towards a small typical village to discover local life and learn how to cook. In the afternoon, visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla (also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and its eighty caves, five sanctuaries, and four main monasteries.
day 4
KandyOn the way, you can visit a spice and fruit garden. In Kandy (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), you will visit the must-see Temple of the Tooth of Buddha, then the magnificent botanical garden. In the afternoon, you will settle into a foundation dedicated to elephants and spend the night in a colonial house. But you will have to work a little: walk the elephants, feed them, wash them…
day 5
Elephants and teaIn the early morning, last meal with the elephants, then departure to visit a tea plantation and its factory; Ceylon tea is world-renowned. Return to Negombo in the afternoon.
day 6
Back to NegomboTuk-tuk ride in the morning to visit Negombo, its churches, its temples, its fish market, its lagoon, and do a bit of shopping… Relaxing afternoon and, why not, a little cocktail on the beach to admire the wonderful sunset over the Indian Ocean.
day 7
AyubowanDepending on your flight schedule, enjoy an Ayurvedic massage, a bit of shopping, or one last swim at the beach, then head to the airport with wonderful memories in your mind. Only one regret: not having planned to stay longer.
