Trip Description

The journey to the southeast of Morocco and its thousand faces begins with the crossing the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas. Then follows the longest valley in Morocco, the valley of Draa and its thousand kasbahs, up to the other side of Morocco where the sea of sand begins. On the trail of the Paris-Dakar, we will begin this magical trek in the heart of the desert, which presents the different cultures and traditions of the Berbers of Ait Atta and the Sahrawi Arabs.

day 1
Arrival
Arrival in Ouarzazate, then transfer to your hotel.
day 2
Ouarzazate - Mhamid - Ras-Nkhal
Departure early in the morning to reach M’Hamid, the gateway to the Moroccan desert, crossing the Moroccan Anti-Atlas via the Tifntite pass, at 1700 m altitude. Then, descent into the Drâa valley and the thousand kasbahs, to reach the last oasis before the desert by passing through Tamgroute, a pottery-making village. Possibility to visit, then departure to reach M’Hamid. Lunch with locals and, in the after- oon, reach the starting point for our trek and meet our team of camel drivers. Musical evening around the fire, night at the bivouac under the tent or under the stars.
day 3
Zouia - Erg Zmaila (4 h - 6 h of walking)
Departure after breakfast for Erg Zmaila, lunch in the shade of the tamarisks. Then, on the way for our walk to the bivouac site in the middle of the sand dunes, for a night under the stars or in the tent. Evening around the fire with music to the rhythm of the nomads.
day 4
Erg Zmaila - Sidi Aamar - Erg Zahar (4 h walk)
After breakfast, we cross the sea of sand to arrive at Erg Zahar, a large dune overlooking the most beautiful part of the Moroccan desert. Lunch on site, then enjoy the afternoon in this magical place and quietly climb the large dune to watch the sunset. Night and evening around the fire, with sand bread.
day 5
Erg Zahar - Erg Essmar (4 h walk)
After breakfast at Erg Zahar, we leave this magical desert to reach Erg ESSMAR, the old village of M’Hamid, inhabited in the 1970s. It is now an abandoned village. We have lunch there, then a half-day free to shower at the well. Overnight stay at Erg Essmar.
day 6
Erg Essmar - Erg Ait Ounir (4h-6h walk)
After breakfast, we set off to leave Erg Ait Ounir and head to Ras Nkhal. We go up the Draa valley to Boughabra to have lunch on site. After the midday meal, we return to the bivouac at Erg Ait Ounir. Night lulled by the atmosphere of nomadic songs and sand bread.
day 7
Erg Ait Ounir - Erg Lbour (4 h walk)
After breakfast, departure to reach Erg Lbour, on the other side of the Draa valley lunch under the shade of the tamarisks. Then departure to reach the evening bivouac at Erg Lbour, entertainment and sand bread.
day 8
Erg Lbour - Ras Nkhal (4 h - 6 h walk)
After breakfast, departure to calmly reach M’Hamid by crossing the small tamarisk forest to reach the bivouac point near M’Hamid. Evening around the fire; it is your last evening with the team of camel drivers.
day 9
Ras Nkhal - Mhamid - Zagora - Ouarzazate
We leave M’Hamid and the Moroccan desert to quietly head to Ouarzazate. Lunch in Zagora, then departure after the meal to reach Ouarzazate. Night at the hotel.
