Gordes - Sénanque - La Fontaine-de-Vaucluse - Festive New Year's Eve partyIn the early morning, transfer to Gordes (10 km), one of the most beautiful villages in France, with its cobbled streets winding between tall buildings built on the rock and dominated by its castle. The painters Marc Chagall and Pol Mara (museum in the castle), as well as the Hungarian visual artist Victor Vasarely, among others, found inspiration here. Then departure for the Abbey of Sénanque, a magnificent Cistercian monastery founded in 1148, nestled in the hollow of an isolated valley. Our path skirts the Grande Combe valley to the Fontaine de Vaucluse, famous for the largest spring (resurgence) in France, the Sorgue. Return transfer to Lumières (18 km). Bonnieux - LumièresAfter a short transfer (8 km), our day begins in Bonnieux, one of the most beautiful hilltop villages on the northern slope of the Luberon. It offers a panorama over the Calavon valley, the Monts de Vaucluse, and the Ventoux. Its upper church, half-Romanesque, half-Gothic, located at an altitude of 425 m, dominates this lovely village that watches over the Lourmarin combe, the only road crossing the Luberon. From there, we set off through orchards and vineyards towards Lacoste, famous for its "pierre du midi" quarries and its alleys dominated by the Marquis de Sade's castle, currently owned by Pierre Cardin. Return to Lumières via the hills, passing by an unusual borie (dry stone hut). Transfer: private vehicle, minibus or car, about 10 minutes. Walking time: about 4 hours 30 minutes. The Ochres of Roussillon - End of the stayTransfer to Roussillon (10 km). To start the year in color, a walk through the ochre sands of Roussillon. We begin with a visit to the village of Roussillon, its cliffs, its colorful facades, and its alleys leading to the Castrum, where the medieval castle once stood. Then, we continue along the St Jean trail, which winds between old ochre quarries, while discussing the origin and extraction of this unusual material. Return to Lumières. Dispersal in the early afternoon. Transfer: private vehicle, minibus or car, about 10 minutes. Walking time: about 3 hours. Positive elevation gain: + 100 m. Negative elevation loss: - 100 m.
