Blonde, golden, pink, immaculate white, flooded with sunlight and refreshed by gentle breezes, shaded by pines or bordered with coconut trees, wild and secret, hidden at the end of deep coves, lulled by the lapping of lagoons or swept by the spirited waves of the Atlantic Ocean, intimate and nonchalant or vibrant with activities and frequented by athletes of all kinds, Bahamian beaches have a thousand faces... It's up to you to choose yours!

Whether with family, as a couple, or with friends, the Bahamas promise unforgettable memories. Let yourself be seduced by these paradise islands where time seems to stand still to offer the best of nature and island hospitality.

A Sunny Paradise for Every Season

An ideal climate all year round, that's what the Bahamas offer, which rightly boast of being the islands of eternal spring. An average temperature of 26 °C throughout the year is sure to delight those of us used to continental climates. There is indeed a winter period, from late November to March, theoretically cooler (especially at night) and less humid. However, it does not differ markedly from summer, which is warm and a bit more humid. These exceptional weather conditions attract visitors all year round.

The Mecca of Diving: An Underwater Paradise

Secret caves, steep faults, gigantic caverns, narrow tunnels, enclosed ravines, dizzying drop-offs, ship and plane wrecks: the diving catalog of the Bahamas is still being completed. The possibilities are so numerous that new sites are discovered every week. If we add to this turbulent underwater geography a fantastic marine fauna and optimal diving conditions, it is easy to understand why the islands have earned a reputation as an unmissable international diving center.

An Exceptional Natural Aquarium

They are called clown, damsel, Picasso, angel, emperor, or surgeon. They wear costumes striped in blue and orange, clothes of light with spots, ceremonial liveries, yellow, black, silver, or fluorescent dresses. They are the dancers of a fascinating underwater ballet with undulating rhythms and strange rituals. Tropical fish constantly offer a magical show in the Bahamian waters. There's no need to reserve a seat: just show up armed with a mask and snorkel to enjoy a performance without intermission. Further and deeper, large pelagic fish move lazily without paying attention to the curious visitors, finned and loaded with bottles, who come to observe their habits. The Bahamas offer everyone an aquarium-like sea within mask reach, regardless of the diver’s level of expertise.

Different Fishing Techniques

While the tradition of fishing has long been established in the Bahamas, "Papa" Hemingway is not a stranger to this reputation. Numerous international fishing tournaments fill the calendar and attract boats from all coasts and neighboring islands to the Bahamian waters, allowing fishermen to compete. Each type of fish has its favored fishing period during the year: marlin, sailfish, grouper, barracuda, tuna, dolphin fish, bonefish, mackerel, tarpon... The complete list would be too long, but it would be surprising if the fine lines didn't return with beautiful trophies.

A Golfer's Paradise

The Bahamas certainly have more golf carts than regular vehicles. These, in addition to serving as a means of transportation for wealthy owners in luxury residences or for guests and staff of large hotel complexes, also allow for movement on golf courses that are close to perfection. The great names in golf have designed for you, on emerald green canvases between forest and idyllic beach, world-class courses. The very favorable climate of the archipelago allows for playing all year round. All this invites excellence!

A Warm Hospitality

Smiling, good-natured, friendly, helpful, simple, and not stressed in the slightest, Bahamians are naturally welcoming and the worthy heirs of a tradition of warm hospitality. With tourists, they readily engage in conversation and easily form bonds. They do not harass visitors who feel safe, rather offering their help willingly. Their standard of living, much higher than that of residents of neighboring islands, likely allows them a certain detachment. Bahamians have also understood very well how much tourists are like a golden egg-laying hen to be pampered, but their attitude is entirely selfless. In short, Bahamians possess a disarming kindness to which one quickly succumbs!

Security in the Bahamas

In the Bahamas, there is no problem of insecurity. Here, everyone knows each other and the slightest infraction is quickly noticed. The disputes that exist are most often based on domestic quarrels or neighborhood problems and do not concern foreign visitors. No hygiene or health issues, no venomous insects or snakes. The biggest threat is undoubtedly the voracious mosquitoes and sand fleas that haunt the seashore at the end of the day, at sunset on certain islands!

Caribbean Charm and English Tradition in the Bahamas

The Bahamas is a young nation with a culture that is nevertheless centuries-old, a blend of African influences and traditions from old Europe. The British heritage is evident everywhere: in the love of well-ordered gardens and botany, in the practice of rugby and cricket, in driving on the left, and in the sacred five o'clock tea. Nevertheless, the Bahamas has a strong identity and a rich and original culture. This richness is expressed in music, the junkanoo (carnival), cuisine, and many other aspects.

The "People to People" program: an immersive experience

Having tea or a meal with a family, attending a religious service, conversing with someone who has the same job as you or who shares the same passion, visiting a primary school... all these activities are possible thanks to the People to People program. Established by the Ministry of Tourism, this program is free for everyone. It allows visitors to discover the local way of life by promoting interactions between tourists and certain willing and volunteer residents. The encounters are tailor-made, based on the visitor's interests, who meets their Bahamian "correspondent" in a personal setting. More than 1,200 people participate in this program on the islands of Nassau/Paradise Island, Grand Bahama Island, The Abacos, The Exumas, Eleuthera/Harbour Island, Bimini, Andros, Cat Island, and are waiting for foreign visitors.

Shopping at Any Cost

Shopping addicts, beware of temptations! The Bahamas offer a wide range of products from all parts of the world. Jewelry, perfumes, cosmetics, leather goods, watches, clothing, alcohol, tableware... the temptations are constant. Having been tax-free for a long time, all these products are now subject to VAT, which was introduced and set at 7.5% in January 2015. Nevertheless, some products found on site may not even be available in Europe. Enough to spark much desire! Copyright Dominique Auzias - Jean Paul Labourdette
