Downtown is filled with beautiful historic buildings, where Portuguese colonial and Renaissance-style buildings stand alongside modern skyscrapers in an eclectic mix of architectural styles. The tour is done on foot, which is the best way to discover this diverse neighborhood, and by public transportation as a Carioca (a resident of Rio) would do. The attractions you will see during this tour include: Cinelândia Square, where the Opera House, the Museum of Fine Arts, the City Council of Rio, as well as the National Library are located, then the modern Sao Sebastiao Cathedral. You can also visit the interior of the Royal Portuguese Reading Room, the popular Uruguaiana market, XV de Novembro Square... (Duration 4h). Overnight at the Castelinho 38 hotel.

As demonstrated by its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Paraty is a gem of planned colonial architecture, a legacy from the late 17th century when it became a port for shipping gold from Minas Gerais. Paraty is nowadays known for its literature festival. Its churches and cobbled streets, set against a backdrop of hills with lush forest, as well as its deserted beaches in the surroundings, make Paraty a must-see stop for anyone visiting the region. Beyond, at the border of the states of Rio and Sao Paulo, the Serra da Bocaina National Park stretches from the Atlantic rainforest and Araucaria forest up to the Boa Vista summit. Meals not included. Overnight at Pousada do Principe.

Overnight at Pousada do Principe.

  • day 7

    Ilha Grande

Welcome by your Portuguese-speaking driver and transfer of about 2 hours from Paraty to Angra dos Reis, where you will take the ferry to Ilha Grande (about 30 minutes crossing). About 100 km from Rio de Janeiro and only 5 km from the mainland, Ilha Grande is an idyllic tropical island covered in jungle, with beaches of translucent waters ideal for diving. It is a perfect destination for tourists who want to disconnect from everyday life. There are many trails through the humid jungles leading to beaches like Praia Lopes Mendes, which many describe as the most beautiful beach in Brazil, although the island has hundreds of them. The island is 30 km long but has only 3 small towns, the largest of which is Vila do Abraão, located on the northeast coast of this piece of paradise. Although it is very quiet, Ilha Grande has a number of hotel establishments that allow tourists to stay on the island as comfortably and as long as they wish.
