A tour combining the most beautiful hikes in Brazil with the discovery of the natural treasures of the Nordeste. The Chapada Diamantina Park in the state of Bahia, made up of mountains, canyons and waterfalls, is a real walker's paradise AND the superb Lençois Maranhenses Park with its dunes and lagoons stretching as far as the eye can see, which you will explore during a 3-day trek.

Day 1: Welcome to Salvador de Bahia

Day 2: Visit Salvador and transfer to the Chapada Diamantina Park.

Day 3: Hike to the Fumaça waterfall (5 hours walk)

Day 4: Circuit by car with easy walks: Discovery of the Mount of Pai Inácio, Poço do Diabo and the town of Lençois.

Day 5: Hiking and discovery o waterfalls (4 to 5 hours walking)

Day 1 : Welcome to Salvador de Bahia

Welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel in the historic centre. 
The city of Salvador is considered one of the most beautiful in Brazil. The former capital is rich in fascinating history and incredible people. It is also a place with an exceptional architectural heritage.  Take a tour of its historic quarter and meet its people.

Day 2 : Visit Salvador and transfer to the Chapada Diamantina Park.

Morning accompanied by your guide to discover the "Pelourinho", the historical centre of Salvador, to discover its historical and architectural heritage. 
Transfer in the early afternoon to the bus station and drive by regular bus (comfortable!) to the Chapada Diamantina Park (7 hours drive)
Arrival and installation at the Pousada do Capão in the heart of the Chapada Diamantina Park.




Day 3 : Hike to the Fumaça waterfall (5 hours walk)

Departure for a day's walk to one of the most remarkable sites of the Chapada Diamantina. This beautiful hike on the highlands allows you to discover the richness of the local flora before reaching the magnificent Fumaça canyon. The 400-metre chasm protects a primitive forest dominated by edible palms, and the view is exceptional. Picnic lunch on site. Return to the pousada in the late afternoon.




Day 4 : Circuit by car with easy walks: Discovery of the Mount of Pai Inácio, Poço do Diabo and the town of Lençois.

We leave today to discover the remarkable "poço do Diabo" and its monumental waterfall, which we reach after following the course of the river. We then go to the charming colonial town of Lençois. The restored pastel-coloured facades recreate what the diamond capital of the last century might have been like. Visit to local craftsmen and artists, from ceramists to photographers. Lunch in an excellent restaurant serving grilled meat and regional dishes. We then leave for the Pai Inácio mountain from where we discover the whole of the Sincorá mountain range, we then take in the dimension of this region and its park which stretches over 130km long.

Day 5 : Hiking and discovery o waterfalls (4 to 5 hours walking)

Breakfast and drive to the last village in the upper valley, Bomba.  We go up to the highlands, immense natural reserves of fauna and flora. The orquids and bromeliads have found a privileged terrain here. The surrounding mountains offer a refuge for the beige pumas (sussuarana) and we discover the Pati massifs which shelter the last totally isolated community of the park. We have a picnic on the plateaus by the river. We then go to the beautiful crystal waterfall followed by a swim in the "poço Angelica" at the end of the day. Back to the pousada at the end of the afternoon then bus back to Salvador at 10.30pm for an overnight trip.




Day 6 : Arrival in Salvador de Bahia and flight to Sao Luis

Arrival of your bus in Salvador and transfer to the airport. Flight to São Luís - Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Steeped in history, São Luís is the capital of the state of Maranhão and is located between the bays of São Marcos and São José de Ribamar. The afternoon is free to explore the city. 
Overnight in São Luís at the Portas da Amazonia pousada.




Day 7 : Discover the Lençois Maranhenses Park! Hiking (4 hours)

Early in the morning we leave for the Lençois Maranhenses Park by land (approx. 260 km-4 hours). Arrival in the small town of Barreirinhas where we take a boat to Atins. We descend the river and take a short walk along the way through the dunes to discover the "little Lençois" before arriving in the village of Atins for lunch.                      
The afternoon is dedicated to our walk through the dunes (about 4 hours) to Baixa Grande - one of the Oases of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Along the way, we will contemplate the most isolated lagoons of the park. Settling in the camp and night in a hammock in the village. 




Day 8 : Hiking in the Park

After breakfast, we leave at 6 am accompanied by our guide to continue our adventure. On this day we will walk 14 km (approx. 5.5 hours). During the whole journey we will see the most beautiful lagoons of the park.  We will settle down in Queimada dos Britos and get to know the inhabitants. This oasis in the heart of the national park has been the location for many films such as Casa de Areia and many national and international reports. Free evening and night in a hammock in the village.




Day 9 : Hike in the park and return to Sao Luís

We leave very early this morning to continue our walk to Betânia (17km - about 7h) with an expected arrival at 12 noon. This part of the park is known to have the largest lagoons.  Arrival in Betânia for lunch in a local restaurant. We will then return to São Luís by land (260 km - about 4 hours).

Overnight in Sao Luis at the Pousada Portas da Amazonia

 




Day 10 : Flight back home
