Pérou : When to go ?

High Tourist Season: from May to November.Low Tourist Season: December to April.Beware! This information mainly concerns international tourism. Indeed, January/February corresponds to the Peruvian school holidays: the inhabitants of Lima (among others) travel so much, especially on the coasts where it is summer. Moreover, the Semana Santa (which takes place the week before Easter) leads to serious disturbances in the hotel area. It is therefore preferable to book your accommodation several weeks in advance.

Although life has increased considerably recently, a trip to Peru remains quite affordable (but largely cheaper than Bolivia).You can stay in the hotel (double room with private health, but not guaranteed hot water) for S/30 to S/50 per person (between 8,50 and 14 €). For S/100 to S/130 per person (30-35 €), you can reach the 3-star range of European standards. For a palace with swimming pool, sauna, tennis and other amenities, it is worth approximately US $ 100 (€ 90) for two.The restaurants also book pleasant budget surprises. The lunch menu at noon and cena in the evening (invariably including soup, meat with vegetables, rice, and/or fries and a drink) is very advantageous: we eat well for S/10 to S/15. On the map, count about triple. Fruit is also cheap, and a bottle of 66 cl beer costs between S/4 and S/8 depending on locations. In comparison, mineral water is expensive: S/3 for 1,5 l.Taking the plane is not ruinous either. As for the bus, the most convenient way to be comfortable, it is very affordable. More comfortable, the train is also much more expensive compared to other modes of transportation, at least to go to Machu Picchu and between Puno and Cusco.FormalitésFor a tourist stay of less than six months, no visa is required and a valid passport is sufficient. In general you are granted 90 days. The maximum per year is 183 days. The visa is obtained once in the territory and may be valid from 30 to 183 days. Please keep your immigration card stamped at the airport and will be requested at the exit.If you plan to stay longer than six months, a long stay visa application is required from the Embassy of Peru in France. Attention: it is no longer possible to extend your stay with the Migration Directorate (Prolongación avenida España 734, Breña, Lima). On the other hand, if your situation changes during your stay, you can now change the visa type without showing Peru.
