Roumanie : When to go ?

Forget the shots that are taking place in the West! A country full of mysteries, the homeland of the terrible Vlad L or Dracula, a country on the eastern edge of Europe, Romania offers a magnificent diversity of landscapes, sites and landforms, which are still not used by mass tourism. A genuine country where nature still has all its rights and where rural tourism still makes sense. The beautiful highlands of Transylvania are wild and romantic, offering extraordinary towns and villages of Saxon influences dominated by their impressive fortresses, such as Bra?ov. Arcboutée all around Transylvania, the magnificent Carpathian chain offers mountain scenery. A well-kept kingdom of Romanian ancestral traditions, the regions of Maramure? and Bucovine cling to folklore still deeply rooted in the daily lives of its inhabitants. To the east, the Black Sea coast has many seaside resorts, lovely fishing villages and the Danube delta, a rich nature reserve. Finally, dragging an unjust reputation, Bucharest, the capital, is a frenetic and lively city, between modernity and tradition, with many connected places. Add to this hospitality, an ethnic and cultural mosaic and popular traditions, and you will find the recipe for a country to visit. And to discover these many wealth of Romania, which still has its beginnings in tourism, organising its live travel with a local agency is the best way to ensure a tailor-made trip full of authenticity. In principle, the most suitable period for visiting the country is from May until the end of October.Summer stays the major tourist season for Romanian and foreign visitors. The beaches of the coast are very busy, but the conditions for bathing are good.Inside the country, in the Maramure?, in Transylvania and in Moldova, the campaigns are really beautiful and the time very pleasant. In Romania, half-season remains soft and colorful nature. The conditions are ideal for hiking and cultural visits. Despite the severity of winter, the snow reveals magical landscapes and a very secluded traditional character, especially during Christmas and New Year festivities.

Roumanie : Go with a local agency

A host landA crossroads between the Slavic and Balkan worlds, Romania, this "island of latinity", is now part of the European Union. Just two and a half hours from Paris, the change is assured. In a country in transition, you can see that traditions of hospitality are still alive and well. The diversity of its architecture or the generosity of its gastronomy at the pace of paced music: everything is gathered here for a pleasant stay.A country for allWhether you are a contemplative, a sports, a history lover, a ornithology, a experienced hiker, a photographer, an amateur of large spaces, every type of activity is possible here.It is a safe, cheap country where transport is reliable. The Romanian language is a Latin language which you will understand easily (in writing).A destination still confidentialRomania is still one of the few countries in Europe visited. Even though tourism is growing there, we are still very far from mass tourism. You will therefore find yourself rarely drowned in a flood of holidaymakers, except on the coast in the summer, when all Romanians go there. The local agencies are therefore particularly well placed to organise a tailor-made stay because they know most about the essence of the treasures of Romania, a country still unknown. An intact natureMore and more tourists travel to Romania on its side. The untouched forests of mountains, the expanses of wild flowers, the encounter of water and land in the delta are probably what Romania has better offer. These stunning landscapes lend themselves to hiking, and you can discover all the most beautiful squares with a guide commissioned by a local agency with which you have organized a tailor-made circuit.Romania is a suitable destination for all budgets.By using trains, buses or maxitaxi, staying in 1 star hotels, in the living room or in a pension, you will find that the country is cheap. For food, whether in the restaurant or in stores, prices are very low. But you can also rent a car and stay in 4 or 5 star hotels.Bread: 0,30 €A flat water bottle: 0,50 €Urban bus ticket: 0,40 €FormalitésRomania is a member of the European Union, but not of the Schengen area. To take less than 90 days, an EU/Schengen citizen must present a valid passport or national identity card. For a stay of more than 90 days, unless leaving the territory to return again, you must apply for an extension of the residence rights.

Spoken languages

The official language is Romanian. French is spoken by many people (it is estimated that 30% of Romanians understand this) having followed studies, especially the elderly. English is better spoken among young people, thanks to the studies and subtitling of the numerous films and television series that pass on Romanian and cable channels or cinema. Finally, we speak Hungarian in parts of Transylvania, but also German. To learn a few words in the Romanian language is, however, useful. Knowing "hello" or "thank you" is practical. Know some useful sentences also, and this delight people, who appreciate "the gesture" and love to hear foreigners speak their language. This is the case with Romanians. Good scientist...

Currency

Since 1 July 2005, the new leu ("lei" in the plural) has replaced the former leu. In other words, the four large and bulky zeros that characterised the Romanian currency were eliminated. The ISO code of the new leu is RON. It should be noted that Romania has reaffirmed its intention to adopt the euro, which may occur as early as 2018.It is divided into 100 bani ("ban" in the singular, "bani" in the plural), a subdivision that had disappeared with inflation and an increase in the number of zeros.Tickets: 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 lei.Parts: 1, 5, 10 and 50 bani.

Weather

In Romania, the climate is continental in the land with a fairly large thermal amplitude between summer and winter. In the plain of Bucharest and on the Black Sea coast, the climate is more temperate, but it can sometimes make very hot in summer.
