The extent of Libya and the fluctuating schedules of domestic flights lead to the need to concentrate on a region in a week's stay. This stay focuses on the Régions and Cyrenaica regions, with a focus on its archaeological sites. Attention, for security concerns, some areas can be inaccessible. Find out before you leave.

Day 1: Archaeological site of the ancient Sabratha

Day 2: Greek city of Ptolemais and walk in Benghazi

Day 3: Archaeological site of Apollonia and port of Soussa

Day 4: Hellenic Metropolis of Cyrene

Day 5: Al-Bayda and its surroundings

Day 6: Stroll in Tripoli

Day 7: Leptis Magna, former Roman capital

Day 1 : Archaeological site of the ancient Sabratha

From Tripoli, we will go to visit the archaeological site of Sabratha: the forum, temples, churches, thermal baths and especially theatre. Return to Tripoli.




Day 2 : Greek city of Ptolemais and walk in Benghazi



Departure for Benghazi by plane. Visit the Greek city of Ptolemais and overnight in Benghazi. In the morning or evening, we will take the time to take a walk in the city of Benghazi.




Day 3 : Archaeological site of Apollonia and port of Soussa



From Benghazi to Apollonia (200 km), the port of Cyrene. Visit of the Byzantine churches of Ras el-Hilal and El-Athrun. Eventually, the Ras Hilal waterfall. Overnight in Soussa or in the tourist village of Ras el-Hilal.




Day 4 : Hellenic Metropolis of Cyrene



Visit the site of Cyrene, a Hellenistic metropolis, with the area of the sanctuary of Apollo and the area of the agora, but also the museum, the temple of Zeus and the tombs of the ancient necropolises. Night in Al-Bayda or Shahat.




Day 5 : Al-Bayda and its surroundings



In the morning, direction the museum of Qasr Libya with its exceptional Byzantine mosaics. On the way, we will take the time for a walk in the wadi el-kouf, the "cave valley". Return to Benghazi and plane to Tripoli.




Day 6 : Stroll in Tripoli



Visit of the city of Tripoli, its rich museum of antiquities, its old town, its ancient mosques, the triumphal arch of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, its souks and craft workshops, then the Italian colonial district.




Day 7 : Leptis Magna, former Roman capital



Full day dedicated to the discovery of the archaeological site of Leptis Magna, the capital of the Roman emperor Septime Severe. Visit of the archaeological site and the museum, then departure for the site of Villa Silin, with its fabulous Roman mosaics. Return to Tripoli late in the afternoon.




Day 8 : Last hours in Libya



Return to France.
