This tour in southern Ethiopia reveals a completely different facet of the country. Green landscapes in the lake region, also mountainous, then arid in the Omo Valley. We find here populations from multiple ethnic groups, with fascinating habits and customs, dress codes and tribal lifestyles that are exceptionally intact. Arrival in Addis Ababa, visit of the city's museums. The Ethnological Museum provides a very good overview of the cultural reality of contemporary Ethiopia and the ethnic groups that make up its cultural landscape in the south of the country. You can eat at his restaurant Lucy's, delicious. An escapade to Entoto Hill allows you to discover one of Menelik II's first palaces and have a panoramic view of the Ethiopian capital.




Day 2 : Lake Ziway and Awassa

On the road from Awassa direction the south, a short stop at Ziway Lake allows to observe the many bird species. Marabouts that abound in pink flamingos flights by the numerous species of martins and multicolores birds. Boat ride on the lake, wildlife observation and visit of the surprising fish market. Visit of Awassa, loved by locals on weekends.




Day 3 : Arba Minch and Anal Sodomy

Go to Agen Minch in 4 and visit the city, very authentic. If this is a Saturday, you can also visit the market of Sodomy. In Arba Minch, several hotels with views of the two Lakes Abaya and Chamo allow you to recover from the fatigue of the first days of travel.

Climb by 4x4 to the heights of a beautiful mountain where the kingdom of Dorzé is located in the eponymous village. The landscapes are magnificent, and the architecture of the huts is remarkable and unique in the country. Don't miss a market: on Mondays and Thursdays, a magnificent fabric market in Dorzé. Tuesday and Saturday, market in Chencha (5 km from Dorzé). Thursday morning, Ezo market. In the afternoon, head for Konso.

Exploration of the Konso villages and their remarkable social and urban structure. Route to Turmi. Meeting on the markets of the Erboré, Bana and Hamer peoples living in the region. Night in lodge for maximum comfort, if not: camping equipment and cook in general included in the starting price.




Day 6 : Dimeka

If it is a Tuesday, visit the market of Dimeka, renowned for its cultural diversity. Many people from the South are giving their appointment. Alternatively, you can make a village tour with a guide. Then take the road to Jinka. Possibility to choose a beautiful hotel or a very pleasant campsite to change the spartan accommodation of the trip.

Early in the morning, visit Mago Park with the must-see Mursi, the women with trays inserted in the lower lip. This is one of the highlights of tribal visits from southern Ethiopia. If it is a Thursday, stop at the Key Afer market, very authentic. In the afternoon, drive to Yabelo.

Priceless market of Yabelo on Saturday. Visit of the well-known freshwater wells dug in depth by the Borana ethnicity about 100 km from Yabelo, as well as the craters where men do the collection of alkali deposits. 




Day 9 : Dila and the sites of Tuto Fela and Tututi



Take the road towards Dila. Visit of archaeological sites of Tuto Fela, a megalithic site consists of two hundred and seventeen stelas, and Tututi, which has a thousand stelas spread over 3 ha, the most impressive of which reaches 8 m high. Night at Aregash Lodge, in the heart of Hyenas country.




Day 10 : Coffee plantations and Shashemene

Visit the coffee plantations around the city of Aregash that offer magnificent landscapes and start towards the Bale Mountains. For the more curious, stop at the Rasta village of Shashemene on the way, where many Caribbean people live here after making a pilgrimage

Trekking in the Massif Mountains, from the entrance of the park to the village of Dinsho. Night in bivouac in the highlands, in the camps of Worgona or Sodota for one night trekking. Think of leaving with an agency that supplies the equipment.




Day 12 : The highest road in Africa and the wolves of Abyssinia

The next morning, return to Dinsho and then by car, road trip on the highest road in Africa, the one that passes through the park on the Sanetti plateau where you have a good chance of meeting wolves from Abyssinia or at least find traces of their presence. Overnight in the new Bale Mountain Lodge to rest in comfort near the plateau, at an altitude of 2,400 m




Day 13 : Swimming at Lake Langano



Then take the road, towards Lake Langano, the only one where you can swim because it is free of bilharzia. Well-deserved rest in one of the new lodges along the lake and a stroll along the banks

Visit the hot springs of Sodere, on the road to Addis Ababa. When you arrive in the capital, do the last shopping for souvenirs: traditional fabrics, silver jewellery, crafts.... You will find all kinds of gifts to bring back. Go out in the evening to an ethiojazz or traditional Ethiopian music and dance club.

Enjoy a last half day to visit the places of the capital that you haven't had the opportunity to discover. Return to Paris by plane from Bollé airport.
