Yunnan and Guizhou are the most renowned provinces for their concentration of ethnic minorities. We also advise you to leave Kunming, the city serving very well the surrounding towns and villages.

Start by discovering the Bai minority by stopping in Dali.

Continue by meeting the Naxi people with a stopover in Lijiang and its neighbouring villages of Baisha and Shunhe.

Climb to the Tibetan villages in the former Kham, north of Yunnan, towards Zhongdian and Deqin.

Go southwardly to Jinghong and the Xishuangbanna region. Here, you will discover the colourful markets of the villages of Dai, Bulang, Lahu, Jinuo and Hani communities.

Go to Guizhou, in Kaili. In this region called Qiandongnan, you can admire the famous Miao and Dong villages. Time seems to have stopped in this beautiful region.

Finally, go to the other side of the border, in Guangxi, to discover the Yao, Zhuang (Longsheng) and Dong (Rongjiang) cultures.
