Indonésie : When to go ?

You can leave all year round. However, the periods from May to October are the dry season. July and August attract the vast majority of tourists. Keep a close Watch on Indonesian holidays and the period of Ramadan not only to participate, but also to avoid all the little inconvenience they involve.

Indonésie : Go with a local agency

Extraordinary sitesThe vast archipelago is home to some of the world's most remarkable natural curiosities: rare animals such as the Sumatra Tiger, Orang-utans or the surprising dragon of Komodo, plants like a metre in diameter, and especially the fantastic landscapes created by these chains of volcanoes (half a thousand are still active in the country).True cultural wealth...Who doesn't have a colourful Bali festival image? Who did not soupiré before the beauty of the extraordinary batik that we found nowhere else? Who did not dream before the richness of traditional art, the terrible demons, the delicacy of the sculptures, the splendour of the wood worked, the amazing masks... And to immerse at the heart of this Indonesian cultural wealth, nothing like a trip organized by a local agency that will immerse you at the heart of this unique world, an authentic experience.... And religiousFor Indonesia is all this: a mixture of Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Confucian, Buddhist, Animist cultures, a unique patchwork that makes this country one of the most fascinating in the world. An omnipresent seaIt is everywhere, a common identity of identity across the vast archipelago. And everywhere, it is turquoise blue. These funds are among the most beautiful and most prevalent in the world. And for the sports lovers, it offers incredible spots, such as the waves of the Mentawai Islands. In Indonesia, the government accounted for 20% per cent of poor people in the country, but that figure did not correspond to international standards. Two thirds of the population lives on less than $ 2 per day. Bear this in mind in order not to shock the Indonesians, who do not understand that the monthly salary of a ? family can be paid in a meal; or a tourist, necessarily rich in comparison with national standards, will compete in bicycle-taxi (becak) to lower the price of 2 000 Pr... In short, even if one often gets the impression of being rip, one cannot forget that Rs 15 000 is only 1 euro.FormalitésAll travellers travelling to Indonesia must be in possession of a valid passport for at least six months from the date of arrival, and have the proof (tickets) of go or return.Since mid -2015, visa waiver for French tourists and a number of nationalities are possible for stays of less than 30 days in Indonesia.Since 2016, this visa waiver has been extended to new airports, ports and also to new land borders. Until that time, this exemption was only issued for entries at main airports and international ports.

Spoken languages

There are almost 500 languages spoken in Indonesia belonging to the malayo-Polynesian languages of the western group of the Austronesian family. The most important are Javanese, sundanese, southern pesisir, madurese, minangkabau, Malay. None of these languages is majority compared to the total population, and even if the Javanese is spoken by the largest number of Indonesians, it is Indonesian Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, who has become the official language. This language was imposed by the fathers of independence as a factor in building national identity. This has worked well, because Indonesia is spoken almost everywhere, almost three quarters of the population, apart from very remote regions, as in Papua for example. Bahasa Indonesia is not very difficult to learn because it is actually a simplified Esperanto, and if you learn a few words and expressions it can be very useful to you. Language also borrows words in Dutch, Arabic, Chinese, Sanskrit, Portuguese... But most loans are English words. In tourist regions, English is undoubtedly the lingua franca: in hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, near monuments, on the beach... you will always find someone who speaks English.Learning language: there are different ways to learn some Indonesian bases and this self-learning can be done on different media, books, Dvds or even directly on the Internet. You can also take intensive courses in Yogyakarta. Alam Bahasa is a very serious school. Find out more about ? +62 274 58 96 31. alamabahasa.com

Currency

Indonesia's currency unit is the rupiah, the Indonesian rupee (Rp). We have left a number of prices in US currency because the dollar remains the international reference currency, and prices, especially those of middle or higher hotels, were often given in this currency. However, in some places such as the island of Bunaken, the accommodation and dives are displayed in euros. You can still pay in rupees, but inform yourself before the exchange rate to avoid bad surprises.
Banknotes are 1 000, 5 000, 10 000, 50 000 and 100 000 rupees. Coins are 25, 50, 100 and 500 rupees that you will almost never use. You will very often have large sets of tickets with you ?; And so, you'll often find it difficult to'break'your big tickets, because small street sellers open eyes all round with a 100 000 Amp ticket. It is therefore useful, especially if you travel outside very tourist areas, to provide many small cuts. Think of breaking your big cuts when you pay a little more chic hotel or restaurant, even if you still have small cuts in advance. And pay attention to your currency. We quickly embrouiller with all these zeros.

Weather

It is still hot and even very hot in Indonesia, a country very close to the equator. Annual temperatures are between 25 ° C and 35 ° C at sea level. The climate is both tropical and equatorial. Seasons are generally settled by the monsoon: intense between October and April/May, the humidity rate is 75% on average but can reach 90%, dry from May to September. The peak rains between December and March are in the mountainous regions of Sumatra and Java, with precipitation of more than 2 000 mm per year. But as in Europe, it seems that Indonesia is suffering from Climate change...
